Is what I was thinking as I saw the title. They don't hold an edge so just end up being frustrating.

Really is a case of you get what you pay for - and the price difference between good and rubbish isnt that great! I have some Bosch bits - deWalt seem pretty good too. Dormer are another pretty good brand.

Lots of fake dewalts out there - if it seems too cheap, you'll find out why.

    Re: Cheap drill bits....

Get proper ones. As everyone has said cheapos aren't worth it. Same goes for screws - soft heads strip under torque and good luck getting them out after that. Bosch user here, and no complaints.

    Re: Cheap drill bits....

Just go onto Ebay and look for NOS bits. I got most of the bits for drills, jigsaws and routers for my familar members off Ebay(some do serious DIY),and the best thing is that many of those older NOS are still made in Europe or the US,whereas many of the "newer" ones might be made in China and worse than the old ones.

    Edit!!

For instance I was looking at some ceramic cutting blades for a jigsaw and paid half the normal amount for some NOS Black and Decker ones in old packaging, instead of the equivalent ones in "new" packaging.

Also shop around - Amazon isn't always the cheapest for bits, etc when compared to dedicated hardware places. For instance some of those Bosch bits are cheaper off dedicated hardware shops and Ebay sellers(many of the said shops have Ebay outlets). I would also rather prefer supporting those local businesses too TBH.

    Re: Cheap drill bits....

TBH,I am actually surprised why anyone would buy cheap drill bits,I mean they are cheap for a reason. You only have to look at what a tradesperson would use to tell you this. Luckily I have avoided cheap bits,or screwdrivers, and since they are mostly metal objects you don't even need to buy the latest. I have old English made Stanley screwdrivers, etc which still are perfectly fine and are ancient. Heck, even the battery powered electric drill a family member bought was a secondhand 24V Makita commercial one he bought years ago and the batteries still work and they are years old. The cheapo ones have worse batteries so would have cost more by now.
