Wanted - AA to D cell convertors
I am fed up with the crappy D cell convertors I have used.
The positive terminal is NEVER prominent enough with them. Some hold 1 AA and some hold 2 (prefer a choice of both) and I've tried both and you can SEE the positive terminal is just not high enough.
And they rattle and the spring inside doesn't push hard enough on the cells to keep them working if you drop the torch etc

were crap
as were the others I have binned.
Has anyone used the Eneloop version with any success?
Re: Wanted - AA to D cell convertors
Silly question, but.... why?
If a torch is designed for D-cells, why not just use D-cells in it?
Re: Wanted - AA to D cell convertors
A) D cells are expensive
B) rechargeable D cells are VERY expensive, and the chargers are extra cost too
C) I have LOT of quality A cells and a charger for them

see this

It kills D cells.. and my boy and his mates play with it a fair bit..ok not always in fully professional way and the imitation is makes of a half decent floss is a total disaster BUT... it kills the batteries

Tenner for a pair of Duracell rechargable Ds... two of those and you're sorted. In fact, they're £7 on Amazon.
Charger - Get a Nitecore one that does all sorts. I have 18650s for my torches and vapes, but it will do everything up to 21700s as well. Even does AAAs for the wife's TV remote things.

Not only is it bigger, and bigger is always better, but it comes with its own rechargeable Ni-MH battery!! :D

blame Father-blummin-Christmas and his Elves ;-)

Nitecore chargers here https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...d-329844162204
But unless you are planning to move to Lipo batteries, your standard (or better!) AA charger will be fine. :)
Re: Wanted - AA to D cell convertors
I have eneloop ones and they are very good for what I needed. I think they were quite short and exposed each end quite a lot. The plastic was hard and not some cheap thin soft ones which I have as well.

Oh, I do. That cowboy outfit they're running out of the North Pole has a lot to answer for, and I've already got Trading Standards on the case!!

As already posted. Several choices.
I have the D4, myself - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nitecore-Di...tecore+charger
Re: Wanted - AA to D cell convertors
Surely something that uses D cells normally would absolutely nail AAs anyway? One of the main reasons for the larger batteries is that they can support higher current draw.
Granted less of a problem with rechargeables as they are better at high current inherently.

Yes, although lower current charging is better for NiMh cells. There are a number of look alike versions now at lower cost. The Nitecore chargers look quite good if you are using lithium rechargeables. I have a torch that uses two of the 18650 size, but it came with a charger for charging that size cell.
My other Charger is a Hitec H4 LiPo balancing charger.
