    Re: What Socket set?

Draper was great when it was made here, but its now whatever cheap crap they can rebadge. Halfords actually rebadge a lot of products from decent companies and usually at a lower price.

If you are looking at some alternatives - Gedore and Wera are pretty decent, but probably too expensive.

    Edit!!

I found out who makes Halfords tools. They are made by Apex Tool Group:

    Re: What Socket set?

I've got a set from Lidl, and it's worked well so far. I also have some ratchet spanners from the same place and they really put the -chet in ratchet - the mechanism has already stripped on one of the smaller ones

Bahco have had a few hideous fail products (sliding bevel), but for the most part they're pretty solid.
My heaviest duty ratchet set are from them. Spanners too, I believe.

    Re: What Socket set?

I use Halfords Advanced (get them when on offer, great kit) and I have a draper set, both used for wrenching on motorcycles

and by wrenching, i mean me standing by with my lovely shiny kit while my neighbour or more mechanically minded friends show me what needs to be done, then doing t for me
We're only here for the Banter - The Luvvies - Chewin' The Fat

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

    Re: What Socket set?

a number of the halfords advanced sets have 20% off at the moment. I just ordered up this one https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-...et-735948.html will that be ok for general car work? I need to get down to reach the battery clips so need something with a bit of reach to it.

    Re: What Socket set?

At my bike shop I use Halfords set and never any problems except when staff take them out of my toolbox. Lifetime warranty cannot go wrong and it takes a lot to advertise for them trust me as it's my competition.

I have a mix of Teng and Halfords, slightly prefer the ergonomics of the Teng, but if you get the Halfords pro stuff on offer I dont think it can be beaten on price.

    Re: What Socket set?

I had my eye on the 150-piece set, but they seem to know this, and hence it's not been on offer since I first posted. Shame, £120 was a good price. I'm not in any hurry, in fact the birthday money I was going to use has since gone on a new 4k blu-ray player...

I thought they might have had a bit more around fathers day, but apparently not...
