How about cooking up some red onions with a touch of sugar over a really low heat for about an hour. Add a touch of red wine and a little vinegar if you have it as well.
Fry the steaks in a pan until sealed, then transfer them to a hot grill to finish cooking. Fry off some sliced mushrooms in the pan the steaks were in, then add a splash of red wine and reduce by half. Make up some bisto gravy granules and add that to the mushrooms and wine, then simmer for 2 minutes.
Serve the steaks with the sauce and a lovely red onion marmalade... top!
