A Wine Label to trust at the moment is....

    ....Concha Y Toro

I've tried lots of their stuff now and it goes from good to bloody good.

Chile (the country) is firing on all cylinders right now in value wine, and I'm hooked into their Merlots... (Winemakers Lot and Concha y Toro have a lower priced selection called "Casillero del Diablo" and the Merlot is excellent)....but tonight I try the white.

Chardonnay, brought in pairs from Majestic, works out at only £4.79 per bottle.

( you have to buy 12 bottles total at Majestic in one hit, but they can be any combo at all, these two made up part of my recent buy)

For £4.79 you get smooth, velvety buttery-ness, & that then goes and leaves traditional lemony/apply lovelyness, but the acidity is LOW on my pallete and therefore I'm happy with my choice

Anyway.....if you wanna go out and buy some nice wine and know almost nothing about it....

Concha Y Toro is a good label to buy. If someone came to MY house with a bottle, I'd smile and clap my hands anyway!

The labels at the base of the bottle are BLACK with gold writing.

    Here's tonight's one

Might even go well with the lamb, as the lamb's got no red wine in its pot.

Dad had a couple of bottles of that, I must admit it was quite enjoyable, though my personal preference is with New World Wines, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia. I like the way they disregard the rules of the old French system, and as a result produce some absolutely cracking wines.

Man I sold some like that at the pub I used to work in, Think it was Frontera IIRC.

    *Googles*

Indeed it was, White, Red or Rose, never tried it but we shifted a bit so it can't be too bad.

We have a a few box's left of Casillero del Diablo cabernet - really good stuff.

Also i have a good recommendation at the moment - http://www.tesco.com/winestore/contr...spx?R=12529855

Had a couple of bottles last night and its gorgeous - well worth it at full price - let along current half price deal

Banrock Station Shiraz Mataro is great now at £3-32 at Sainsbury's, and I also like the Chateau Bonnet from ASDA at £5-90.

Re: A Wine Label to trust at the moment is....

This wine is the best white wine I have ever drunk in my life:

    http://www.adnams.co.uk/CellarAndKit...product=711853

It is Adnam's White Burgundy, available from Adnam's Wines, Southwold. It is not cheap at £6.99 but oh...my...god.....If you like French unoaked chardonnay this is the business.

From the same company this is an amazing white wine to enjoy with oriental food:

    http://www.adnams.co.uk/CellarAndKit...product=710704

It is a very fruity, aromatic French Viognier. Again, not cheap at £7.99 but worth the money for complementing a special meal.

Re: A Wine Label to trust at the moment is....

Quality Chilean wine just has to be the best value for money stuff at the moment. Totally agree Zak.

I've given up on the frequently dissapointing Aussy wines now and find myself buying South American or New Zealand with the odd bottle of Amarone when I'm rich.

Edit - So nearly picked up a Concha y Toro Special reserve Merlot for £15 at Sainsbury's the other day.....I'm sure I'm going to do it soon.
