Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cab Sauv - On Offer in a couple of places for a fiver.
Sainsbury's have an Amarone in their "Special Section" for around £11. A 2003 I think. I'll find the exact name because the other one they have is too young.
The Man with the Silver Spot
2003 was a "golden harvest" year, at least for Gerhardts. They hadn't had a better harvest since 1946.
I found Wolf yellow to have gpone off quite a lot in recent years, is it back on form now then ?
Anything Banrock Station is OK by me, esp their Shiiraz Mataro 2006.
The Gallo Bros White Grenache is very strawberries and cream.
If you can find any unoaked chrdonnay from the Robertson estate of SA its good too.
Lanson Black Label at the start of the year;
Hardys Nottage Hill Chardonnay (2005 when we could find it) with the odd bottle of Hardys Stamp of Australia Semillon Chardonnay over the summer;
And after a trip to France earlier in the month we're on our second crate of....something. The name escapes me at the moment.
I've got to pick up some more Lanson this week, it goes down so well in the cold and really works well with the festive dinners - at least I think it does
me too....in fact I'd go so far as to say it was all a merketing ploy, with a year or two of loss leaders/zero profit, to build the brand name, then ....BAM....fill the Supermarkets with "Half Price" deals.
It's still above your average £3 bottle of plonk, but it's not magical anymore

No accounting for taste I guess? I have found Yellow label quite good recently and certainly bucking the trend of dissapointing Aussy wines...but I wouldn't drink Banrock or Hardy's if you paid me.
For Christmas something special is needed.....the hunt continues
The Man with the Silver Spot
My favorite atm is a nice australian Red called "Calloway Crossing" usually pick it up at Tesco for around £5-£6 however i alway stock up when its on offer for around £3-£4 a bottle, it will goe really well with your christmas dinner trust me.
Hope you do try it, very nice wine ..
Not a wine drinker myself but had some of a bottle of Mcguigans Black label red i bought for Shelley a couple of weeks back. Really nice taste and no strong aftertaste (which is what puts me off red wine!).
Wow - Angus the bull!
just had a gorgeous bottle of this with our roast beef today
My friend works in fine wines - and recommended me this (vintage 2005)....
Angus The Bull
Its described by critics as the ideal wine for prime beef - and they are not joking
Lovely blend with hints of blackcurrant and minted berries. Is rather tough to track down and does not come particularly cheap between £10-15 per bottle, but well worth treating yourself with a sunday roast or steak yum
