I'm not sure what role the stabbing/piercing does?
do i just have to do it a couple of times or should i aim for piercing it evenly all over?

I thought it was to stop the potato exploding as the moisture in it turns to a vapour during the cooking process. Ergo I would stab it all over, but not so much you end up with a pulp.
yeah stab them all over, it does stop them from blowing up in micro
Don't listen to them! Stabbing a potato takes all the flavour away! Leave it alone, and cook it at full power for at least 30 minutes!
(he he he...)
^ nooo
Stab all over, turn halfway through, or a few times to stop the bottom getting all hard.
i think i'm back to square one![]()
You're aiming for a nice even stabbing so that the steam is released evenly while it cooks, or you'll gbet exploded potato and not much else
if doing it in the microwave, turn it a few times while it's cooking so that the bit on the bottom doesn't get all tough.
the holes when you stab it lets the steam escape instead of making it explode.
I only stab it when I've had a bad day. a BAD day........
