    How To Cook Pies - Advice Please

    When ever we cook pies (such as veggie ones - ASDA own brand) the sides are always soggy and look as if they've not been cooked properly. If we take the foil off then the pie just melts and ends up like a pancake instead of a pie

    Is there a way to ensure the sides are cooked properly?

    Is your oven old?, makes me wonder if its slightly below temperature. You don't quite get that finishing heat.

    make sure you are using the right temperatures, fan assisted ovens are different from just oven without fan. i used to get soggy fries

    For pies I would go with around 200 (Gas mark 7) with a fan assisted for about 25 mins in defrosted, 40 mins if frozen. Higher up in the over the crispier it will get also, got pies in mine at he min that I made this morning (what a coincidence) and they are looking great and evenly cooked.

    Oven is about six years old but from what I remember we always have had the same problems with the pies. Colleagues at work said they had the same problem, best solution was to make your own pies and bake the pastry first

    It's not a fan assisted oven as far as I know.

    Double check the instructions, sometimes they require that you brush the top with milk or egg first, some don't.

    Also, don't go by cooking times, go by eye, when the top is nice and crispy, the sides should be done.
