    What do you do....

For a guy who can't cook whatsoever, has never EVER cooked in his life yet he his going to go and live away from his generous parents for four years?

me + uni + never cooked = bad combination.

What can i do? I can burn microchips....

Any (simple) cooking ideas for being at uni?

Yup, basic bolognese sauce, fry onions for about a minute, add mince beef, cook untill brown. add garlic to taste, add tin of tomatoes & generous squeeze of tomatoe puree, pinch of oregano, and cook a bit more till you get too hungry to wait any longer and eat with some pasta you have boiled for about 7-8 mins while you have been cooking this..............sphagetti bolognese

add chilli powder and red kidney beens to same dish and serve with rice.......chilli con carne

or add some sliced red & green peppers, and chilli powder, serve in totillas with a bit of salad......... Tex-Mex

or just dolloped on a baked potato

Um, why not just get your parents to teach you how to cook before you leave? It ain't exactly rocket science. I'll never be a good cook but I can put together a decent enough meal; I learnt just by watching my Mum when I was a kid.

Folk might take the mick but I got an old copy of delia smiths complete cookery book (the black book with her on the front) when I got me own spot. Nigel Slater also does some good straightforward books for tasty scran.

Failing that Fray Bentos pies straight from the tin worked fine for the first few months....

Eggs...last ages (normally 2 week shelf life) and dont need to be in a fridge

Scrambled eggs....heat knob of butter until melted in a saucepan, (not spitting hot)...break two eggs into some kinda tub/big mug/mixing jug and beat with a fork....so doesn't matter if yokes breaks when you crack it. Put little salt and or peepr in. Pour into melted butter and on a low heat stir withWOODEN spoon until it scrambles....serve on hot buyttered toast.

Omlette.....mix 2 eggs in tub/mixing jug/whatever.....with little splash of milk. Chop up bits of cheese or whatever you want in it (spring onions, pepers/tomato etc)

Melt nit butter in frying pan..pour egg/milk mix in.....heat gently until its setting..pour chopped upbits on one half..coook for aniother minute...

use wooden spatula to fold one half onto other (like a half moon)......turn heat up to max now....brown one side...turn..brown other....

    done

    yup.....

boiled eggs...sounds daft, but not really....boil for 3 to 4 minutes, cut lid off, eat with bread and butter.

Hard boiled eggs........boil for about 7 to 8 minutes, take out and cool under cold tap.

Put in fridge for later.., for emergency snacks

take shell off hard boiled egg, chop in a bowl with a knife (no skill, just go at it like a demon ) mix one tea spoon of cheapo mayonassise.....use in sandwhich....egg mayo...the finest sarnie a man/woman can eat...grind of pepper to finish.

    Sooo easy.....

Eggs....beat with a fork.....dip a slice of bread into egg mix, coat on both sides, fry in butter.....eggy bread now thats nice.

Slice of bread.....push an upside cup down into middle of it to make a big round hole and then get round bit of bread out of cup...

put square bit in pan with tiny bit of oil, and press it lightly with a spatula so it doesn't curl or bend with the heat.....after few seconds of pressing it to make sure its ok, crack and egg into middle of hole.....make sure egg doesnt escape out from underneath you want it all in ther middle...

put round bit of bread in next to it all, to fry/toast it....turn them both same time (about 2 minutes on mid heat) and do other side....serve with round toaste "lid" on top of egg, with splash of ketchup underneath it

    Eggs.....the only way to go

Easy meal for about 4 people:

Fry some (about 750g) diced chicken, till beginning to go brown. Put in a ovenproof dish.

Make mix of 1 pint of double cream, and 1 bottle/jar thing of sharwoods spreadable chutney (green label stuff). Mix it a lot with a little bit of worcester sauce. Pour it over the chicken.

Stick in the oven on about 200 degrees for about 30 mins.

Serve with veggies or chips or whatever.

    Cooking really is easy!

    Oh yeah, and the classic...

Buy a steak. Buy some steak spices (you can buy these, to save you having to choose different spices)

    Put spice on steak.

    Fry Steak.

    Put in baguette,

    Voila... steak sandwich!
