Just though i'd up these...
wasn't sure which sub to put them in so i just combined into a singular thread
White Bread
Ingredients:
1lb 8oz Strong white bread flour
2tsp salt
1oz white vegetable fat
1 sachet harvest gold yeast
3/4 pint warm water
Instructions
1. Mix flour with salt in a warm bowl
2. Rub in fat
3. Add dried yeast
4. Mix in water
5. Knead for 5-10 minutes
6. Cover and allow to rise in a warm place until double in size (approx 45 minutes)
7. Knock back dough and shape as required, prove for approx 1 hour
8. Bake @ 230c for 30-40 minutes until well brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped underneath
9. Allow to cool on a wire tray
Tomato sauce for Pasta
Ingredients:
1tbsp olive oil
2 cloves of garlic
2*400g/14oz tinned chopped tomatoes (napoli ones are nice)
1tbsp tomato purée
1tbsp fresh chopped oregano, marjoram or rosemary
1 bay leaf
1tsp crushed juniper berries (optional)
1 lemon (finely grated rind only)
1tsp sugar
12oz pasta
Instructions:
1. Heat the oil and fry the onion and garlic for a few minutes.
2. Stir in the tomatoes, purée, herbs, juniper berries (if being used), lemon rind and sugar
3. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
4. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
5. Cook the pasta until Al Dante, drain the water and toss thoroughly with the sauce
Cheese Straws
Ingredients:
6oz Plain flour
4oz butter
1 egg yolk
4oz Cheddar cheese
1tbsp water
Pinch of salt
Pepper
Instructions:
1. Put all ingredients in a food processor mix.
2. Roll out into straws of required size
3. Place on a greased baking sheet
4. Bake for 15-20 minutes @ 190c
Ginger Cake
Ingredients:
4oz margarine
4oz soft brown sugar
2tbsp syrup
5fl oz milk
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
6oz self raising flour
1tsp ground ginger
1 beaten egg
Instructions:
1. Put margarine, sugar, syrup and milk into a large saucepan and melt together.
2. Remove from the heat, stir in bicarbonate of soda using a wooden spoon or mixer.
3. Gradually add sifted flour and ginger.
4. Whilst mixing, add the beaten egg and mix well
5. Pour into a greased lined tin.
6. Bake for 45 minutes @ 180c
