because its cooked properly with the finest freshest ingredients and the chefs have had over 12 years of training in the arts of rolling, and deep fat frying

Saying that, some of the chinese sauces at the supermarket are just basically Monosodium Glutamate water and salt with red dye in a tin and thats probably why the chinese from the chippy is always better than homemade... its the rule of the law I'm afraid, even indian food tastes great when you don't have too cook it

True, Lee, true - but then I live directly opposite a BRILLIANT chinese, so it might as well be at home...minus the cooking. Downside is it hits the wallet pretty hard...

Depends a lot on the take away and restaurant in question... Fresh ingredients def. help. Best Chinese restaurants I've been too are:

    "The Shanpan" in Reading
"The China Palace" in Newcastle under Lyme near Stoke on Trent

Shanpan is def. worth a visit if you're in the area. China palace is great (and there's a super cheap and bloody good Indian in Newcastle under Lyme - "The Shalimar")... Got a couple of excellent Chinese takeaways where I live now (Wokingham - "Beijing" and "Haka"... Though there are lots of good non-chinese restaurants and takeaways in Wokingham too).

Perhaps we should add a recommendations forum to the hot pot?

Some things are much easier to cook at home too. IMO I do a pretty good black bean sauce. Chilli bean / Szechuan dishes are pretty easy if you can get the right paste...

Takeaway, the Wok Inn on Watling Street Road, just by the White Hart; very fresh ingredients, the fillet steak in black pepper sauce is gorgeous and the hot-and-sour soup, well, I don't know what goes into it...and frankly, I don't care

Fillet steak from a take away? Sounds good. And hot and sour soup is bloody good stuff. Though my fav. chinese food has got to be crispy duck. Mmmmmm....

Tell ya summit else seems to matter a lot.....with Chinese food....

whether it really is Chinese or whether its designed for the area of England that youlive in

I know that sounds dreadfull, and I HAVE NEVER BEEN TI CHINA, but my bets are on the food there being as varied as it is here.....HOWEVER>...having had a Chinese on lots of different towns.....I find the entire ethos of whats in them, and how its cooked iS MILES APART ...which is scary.

Bit like having an Indian in Birmingham...totally different to one in Aylesbury or Devon .

I'm a rice man...first and foremeost....house special fried rice...the rest is a side line....rice , well fried, in good oil, with nice tasty bits and bobs in it....

    the only way to fry
