The ULTIMATE Iced Lemon Tea Recipe :-)

Well guys, I've been working on this for a few weeks and I have the balance correct

It is caffeine free (not intentionally, it's just the kinda tea that works best) and cuts through your thirst like a bullet through a ripe tomato.

    You need

Rooibos Tea, I prefer Tick Tock

    Lemons

    and my ratios

First boil a kettle of fresh water, and put two Tick Tock teabag into a 1 large measuring jug or other bowl. Add 1 pint of freshly boiled water. Stir and leave to stand for at least an hour. It'll cool and it'll be strong.

Remove the teabags and put the 1 pint of tea into a large drinks container that will fit in the fridge (I have to use a large pourable measuring jug to fit my fridge)

Add HALF a teaspoon of sugar.
Cut 1 lemon into 1/4's and squeeze each into the tea, and then drop the squeezed lemon in too. Use all 4 quarters, ie a whole lemon.
Add cold tap water to an equal volume of the tea, ie 1 pint of cold water.

Put it into the fridge and allow to chill for at least 4 hours.

    And that's it.

1 pint of boiled water over 2 teabags, leave to stand for an hour, half a teaspoon of sugar, squeeze a whole lemon in to it and drop the lemon itself in too, doube the volume with cold tap water.. chill.

    This is THE daddy

Using 2 teabags into 1 pint of boiling helps it all to cool faster and uses less electricity than boiling two pints.

Re: The ULTIMATE Iced Lemon Tea Recipe :-)

Technically Rooibos isn't tea as it isn't manufactured from camellia sinensis, but from Aspalathus linearis. However, as its manufactuing process includes an oxidative "fermentation" then you would classify it as "black" rather than "green".

Personally I would say that the ultimate iced tea recipe would have to use Lipton Cold Brew, but I'm biased as I helped invent it For those that haven't been to the US and seen it, its tea that infuses in cold water like normal tea does in hot

Rooibos does work very well though as it has a much less "heavy" flavour than most of the tea you can readily buy over here. However, if you can find it a good high grown Ceylon works great too.

There is another good recipe using mint and lime... but that has gin in it too

I'll be giving this a try soon.

    I love Rooibos.

Weirdly, my mum is allergic to one particular brand of it. I now have two large boxes of that brand in my cupboard

Re: The ULTIMATE Iced Lemon Tea Recipe :-)

I made a jug the other day. It was good.

Made another jug last night, so i'm going to see how that goes. I put 4 tea bags in the stewing jug, still with just 1L of water. Going to put a bit more sugar in it as well this time.

    I shall report back.

Re: The ULTIMATE Iced Lemon Tea Recipe :-)

Well, I personally think the stronger tea is better, but then I like my Rooibos stronger than normal tea. It is now a lot more like juice, but it's still refreshing and quite a bit more flavour than the last one. I'll have to see what it's like once it's sat over night. The flavours came out more after a good soak last time.

Honey would be a good idea for next time

Gonna give this a go, got a tonne of Red Bush tea lying around since the weather got too hot for it at home and keep forgetting to take it to work (seriously, I've been trying for 6 months to remember to take it!)

Only downside is once I start drinking it I tend to get through a tonne as it's a better alternative to black coffee in an office where the milk is frequently half way to being yoghurt!
