Kitchen layout

I'll post some piccies of my kitchen shortly, which I guess will shock a few peeps. It's what I call "functional". Besides the gawdy colour scheme (yellow and blue) there are NO cupboards. Over the years I have become to loathe cupboards!.

Would be interested to see how others have set up their working space.

I guess most of you have seen my kitchen... laid out so that fridge is close to cooker with perp space next to cooker... pots and pans on other side and cupboards with cooking ingredients handy to reach too...

Over the other side is a big bit of worktop for plating up or just dumping stuff out of the way to wash up later.... built the whole thing meself... one day I might even finish it!

I just love the American style fridge/freezer. Keep all the veg inside.

i don't do cupboards much either, have very few of them in my kitchen cos it has a larder so i put everything apart from fridge / freezer items in there. wasn't keen on it when i moved in but wouldn't do without it now

my kitchens a bit poorly laid out atm - its square(ish) so there's not much room around the outside for workspace, but its not quite big enough for an island, i'm applying for planning permission to pull it down & start again so if i get the OK for that i'll be looking for ideas

The stuff that doesn't get used much can get dusty, but the stuff at the top gets used alot and the stuff at the bottom less.

Petrefax...I'd die for a larder. Just like mum had, nice and cool. The cooker is a new thing. A few years ago I couldnt understand why loads of ppl I knew bought range style cookers when you could get two normal ones cheaper. SO I bought two shiny new cheap ones which fell apart in a little over two years. You are never too old to learn!!!

yea, larders are good, i'm definitely converted & regardless of what happens to my kitchen i'll be keeping that. i'm also a recent convert to range cookers - finally got one when i moved house over xmas & already don't know how i coped without it
