have you given up sugar in hot drinks ?

I stopped sugar in tea and coffee months ago, i managed to put a spoon in my coffee the other morning as i was not awake enough to realise it was my drink and not the wifes.

my god it tasted horrible


anyone else given up and can no longer stand a sweet hot drink ?

I used to take 2 sugars in my tea when I was a kid, stopped when I got to about 13 or 14 (so.... more than half my life ago). Went to see my parents a few months back and Mum made me a cuppa with 2 sugars in and it nearly ended up all over the floor. It was... vile.

That said... if I have a cold or just feel slightly ropey I'll happily do the old hot lemon and honey (no extra sugar mind) and have no problem with it.

Yup, stopped years ago. About 35 years ago.

For a while (about two weeks) tea and coffee tasted foul without sugar. But now, they taste foul with it.

Its my only weakness, lots of muscavado in my black strong coffee. I won't say *exactly* how much I take tho'

Like splash I stopped taking sugar with tea when I was like 14 or so, now I find the taste abhorrent. Although I still take a spoon of sugar with coffee and hot chocolate to take the edge off the bitterness.

Haven't stopped but I've gone from 2 tsp of sugar in my coffee (we have big mugs) to just half, sometimes none depending on what the coffee is.

It took me ages to give up sugar in tea and coffee, I was one of those people who asked for just a bit of sugar/half a spoon. In the end, going to college and living the semi-feral existence of studenthood forced me off it - plus I had nowhere to keep milk fresh.

Now I like my tea and coffee black and as strong as possible. I can just about stand sugar in tea but not often and if I have a Cappuccino then I like a sugar but in general day-to-day drinking of the stuff, no!

A mate of mine likes his tea to look like drinking chocolate (just a dash of milk) and has at least three sugars plus a couple of sweeteners. A lad I went to school with had at least six sugars in every cup of tea or coffee.

My grandmother, bless her, used to like salt in her coffee! She always put a good pinch of it in every cup. She drank Mellow Birds, I can still see the pot of it and the faux wooden cruet set she kept by the kettle if I let my mind wander back over the years.

With tea, I hardly have it now (unless im really run down) and I actually prefer it without. But with coffee, I still tend to have one teaspoon of sugar because of the slight bitterness of coffee.

I really don't like sugar in tea or coffee, however I will happily have a latte with syrup at the well knows coffee chains when I'm out.

I drink around 15 cups of tea a day I would wager, probably closer too 20.

I used to have two sugars and there came a point, about two years ago when it clicked that perhaps 30 tea spoons of sugar of day was a bit too much.
It wasn't the [direct] fact it was an over-excess of sugar which put me off - i have a huge phobia of the dentist and anything that i can curb to preserve my pearly whites, i will.

Now I can only drink tea without sugar, it tastes so much better. Although i still like soft-drinks and the like, especially Dr. Pepper.

Yep, I know. I'd try to cut down on the tea as well but I don't think its inherently bad (?) although i suppose too much of one thing can be bad.

It's got to the point of convention now rather than "I need a brew". I've come in from town before now sloshed and brewed up before making my way up the apples and pairs and even during the summer months i very rarely drink cordials/pure juice drinks etc.

As I mentioned up above, other than tea the only thing I drink that isn't alcohol related is Dr. Pepper.
