    question for you clever foody types...

    Why does sugar smell so bad, when it tastes so nice??? caught a whiff out of our sugar jar this afternoon and I nearly gagged.... but it tastes so nice... I'm miffed

    I think sugar is quite good at absorbing odours so chances is are it wasnt the sugar that was smelling but the jar . I am not sure though.

    I think cane sugar usually smells quite nice.
    Ill just go and check what our bag of beet sugar smells like.



    Yeah it smells of curry powder because it the open bag has been in the same cabinet with curry powder and root ginger for quite some time. So there you go.

    It's not something I've never checked before!
    Odd... mine smells like garlic! (It sits beside the stove)
