    Auto condimentors

You know what i mean, people who put condiments like salt and pepper or sauces on EVERYTHING they eat.

I know lots of people who order food and proceed to dump salt and pepper on it before they have even tasted it. Same with sauces like ketchup, splurt it on without tasting what they ordered first.

    Why do people do it?

And does it annoy Chefs (Deck this means you) when your carefully prepared, delicately flavoured food has salt and pepper thrown all over it before its tasted?

Well personally i like pepper quite a lot and sometimes if there is a pepper grinder on a table i will put a lot on some soup etc before i've even tasted it. Just because i have a craving for pepper at the time.

Saying that i would never put salt or sauces on something without tasting it first.

When I'm serving dinner, I don't even bother putting out salt and pepper - esp. if it's something with a delicate flavour, there's no point.
I refuse to cook anything when a certain friend comes around, as he once put Tomato Sauce on Roast Lamb (sickening!) with Salt and Pepper - no reason for that at all!
    Disgusting!!
I use a Salt and Pepper rub occasionally for seasoning, but don't often use pepper, especially for the meats I cook. But I think you're right - there are too many people who just add salt and pepper as a matter of course - venison and duck - why would you - especially if they're wild - it's the flavour and texture that you're after... you're allowed to put it on the veggies if that's your thing, but never on the meat.

I dont put salt on anything myself, chips included (except for chips from the chippie cause its sacriledge not to )

I only ever put tomato or brown sauce on chips. NEVER on steak or anything like that as I prefer to tatse the steak epsecially if its got some garlic cloves stuffed into it

Is really annoying when someone puts salt and pepper all over something that I have already seasoned in the cooking, so much so that they wont get a second chance again just like Scottyman says.

lol, I was cooking dinner for a couple of people at my house a while ago and I sevred up the first two plates, went back into the kitchen to grab the next two and as I was finishing saucing them I heard the pepper or salt grinder going...

I shout out something like "TASTE IT FIRST!!"... as a joke and stroll back in to see the girl looking well embarassed and admonished....

It does annoy me, but hey, if that's how people like their food, then fair enough. I go really condimental when someone complains its too salty AFTER having liberally sprinkled the stuff over their dinner.

The best way I've found to avoid it is to not have salt and pepper on the table. This forces people to try it first, then they know if they really want salt and pepper and will ask for it.

    it used to be me...

Deckard would arrive with a flourish from the kitchen, present me with dinner, and as he rushed out the the kitchen for the other plates I'd get

"AND IF ANY SERIAL CONDIMENTALISTS fancy salt.....WAIT!"

he's right too........but one thing you can be sure of...

soup ALWAYS needs black pepper on it !

Oh too true. This is the only food i'd really put pepper on first before tasting it. Preferably coarse ground black pepper .

My friends dont like it when i make soup because i am a bit too partial to the pepper in soups even in the cooking process .
