I cant comment of Indian food, but if you can manage Chinese, then the Big Wok is pretty good, as is the one upstairs at the Arcadian - we were the only Westerners a few months ago, and the place was heaving

    One word:

    Jyoti

I believe they're now in Hall Green, on Stratford Road, and they do proper traditional pure vegetarian curries. They are by some distance the best curry I have ever eaten, and they're pretty reasonably priced. They also used to allow you to take your own booze and not charge corkage (since they're not licensed), but it'd be worth checking if that's still the case.

They're also great at catering for special diets: my wife can't eat onions and they had no problem producing fantastically tasty food for her every time we went - something I can't say for many curry houses...

Ah, and they do have a website nowadays - http://www.jyotis.co.uk/
