The Clockwork Beer company on the Southside of Glasgow:

    http://www.clockworkbeercompany.co.u...k-beer-co.html

West Brewery (close to the river/glasgow green and city centre):

    http://www.westbeer.com/

The closet brewery is actually the massive Tennents Brewery in the East End

The only one I know about in my town, Bedford, is the pretty sizeable Wells and Young's brewery. Probably most famous for Bombardier, but my recommendation would be to ignore that and go for Eagle. A hundred times better. http://www.wellsandyoungs.co.uk/

Just down the road in Shefford, there's Banks and Taylor. Their Shefford Pale Ale and Shefford Stout are great. http://www.banksandtaylor.com/

Definitely worth it if you can find it. Yet to see it anywhere outside of Bedford though. Also, 100 times better may be a slight exaggeration.

OOoo Greenjack, they do one of my favourite beers.

Baltic Trader Imperial Stout 10.5% single bottle
    Baltic Trader 10.5% (Imperial Stout)

Have been to a couple of beer festivals where there has been a barrel.

Re: UK Local Brewery and Micro Brewery: your locals

bingo... new one for me here.

    Whitepark Brewery, Cranfield... near Bedford.

    http://www.whiteparkbrewery.co.uk/

found 4 different bottle of their brew in the local Budgens.. (fair play to Budgens for allowing the local stores to sell local produce too)

The Best is good .... bottle conditioned and tasting lush right now...

I was in Cardiff the other day and i tried their 'Brains', i wasn't blown away if I'm honest. It was OK, i wouldn't even go far as to describe it as bland it just was just a bit uninspired. Are there any good Welsh ales?

Kelham Island Brewery in Sheffield has a nice selection.

Can't post links yet, you'll have to use google

Pale Rider and Easy Rider are the favorites.

We've just got a new one near us: (in Barnet, North West London)

    http://www.blackhorsebarnet.co.uk/

The beers they're brewing on site are excellent, the food is excellent and they have a whole bunch of guest ales!

Re: UK Local Brewery and Micro Brewery: your locals

Just discovered a new microbrewery near us (sadly nearer the last house than our new one) thanks to them being called on to Levenshulme market at short notice. We managed to lose over 2 hours on Saturday afternoon propping up the bar and chatting to the head brewer (who's a nice Georide lad!). Don't think he's doing bottles yet, but it's well worth badgering your local to see if they can get a cask or two in (his "Wor Stout" is particularly tasty and drinkable ).

So, my new favourite local brewery; Ringway - https://www.facebook.com/RingwayBreweryLimited/info

EDIT: duh, should've read the link I posted really Bottles coming soon, hopefully

Re: UK Local Brewery and Micro Brewery: your locals

Loads near me, but top of the list:

Wild Beer co, Shepton Mallett, Somerset - brew with wild yeast and output a lot of sours and experimental stuff (don't knock it until you've tried it), ones to watch out for are Shnoodlepip (Collab with Burning Sky and someone else) and Rubus Maximus (collab with Beavertown).

Bristol Beer Factory, Bristol... - Southville hop is divine

Arbor Ales, Bristol - Not had many from them yet, but what I've had has been great

Wiper and True, Bristol - Delightful beers

Zero degrees, Bristol and others - Nice selection of drinkable stuff. Was good to see them have control of Bristol's harbor side festival bars rather than the usual rat piss...

There are a few I haven't hunted down yet too but I can only think of the New Bristol Brewery right now - Two brothers I think, but not managed to find any of their stuff yet.

I'm a little bit spoilt for choice in Bristol, the beermuda triangle offers a ridiculous amount of taps on King St thanks to SmallBar, Navy Volunteer (not ventured in yet) and the Beer Emporium, with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Tasty food in both too and SmallBar is cheap for the portions that they serve! Plus they donated a litre of Shnoodlepip to me while I was in hospital with a broken face

The beer fridge is usually stocked up with BrewDogs Punk IPA though, thanks to the local Sainsburys having 660mls for £2.50...
