Any one here make wine?
I have been thinking of doing it for ages but just never got around to it.

I really should get some equipment and give it a try. You never know it might actually produce something drinkable.
I've made some peach wine with a kit from Boots (do they still do them?). It was alright, but it didn't really ferment all the way, so it wasn't that strong and it was REALLY sweet- so sweet in fact that if you drank a whole bottle it'd give you a really painful stomach ache for about 15 minutes
. TBH I didn't brew it for its qualities as a beverage, I was a student and wanted to get drunk on the cheap, and once the stomach ache had gone away it fulfilled its function pretty adequately
.
I also did a couple of those 'super strength' liquor kits that can ferment up to about 20% alcohol. The first one was brilliant, the second a little less so, but both got my friends and I seriously drunk on a number of occasions.
If you do it properly there's little danger of wine continuing to ferment and exploding. For a start normal yeast starts to die at a concentration of about 14% alcohol, and for a second it's easy to kill the yeast off with (I think) a little ammonium sulphite (or something like that- don't quote me).
I also wouldn't mind giving it another go, but I don't have the space and all my equiptment is scattered around my mum's loft.
Rich :¬)
Yeah i have quite a lot of info about it but just never got around to getting the equipment.
Seemingly you can make wine out of nearly anything even things like marrowsalthough i think at that stage it is more a flavouring than anything to do with the fermentation process.
Got loads and loads of apples at the moment and windfalls/damaged apples are apparently good for making wine![]()
My mate made some homebrew lager which I still blame for the worst hangover of my life. We were at school on my 18th and started drinking with champagne (well plonko-fizzo) at breakfast (which might have had something to do with the hangover too). Then afternoon at the pub, then came the larger, and then for some reason Port in the evening.
I was given a few of the 'special' homebrew beer, most of which were poured down the sink because of the inch thick layer of yeasty skum at the bottom of the bottle.
So I woke up next morning, hanging onto the bed so I didn't fall onto the ceiling, wondering what day it was and why could I smell bleach? Then to cop it all off someone though it would be a really good idea for me to go sailing that day as the 'fresh air' might do me good. I was sick 15 times over the side that afternoon, skipper wasn't best pleased except the old git wouldn't stop laughing.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
