    Tap Water Alternatives ..?

I've been trying to weigh up the best alternatives to my cra.. err, I mean tap water is ,in order to help with some detoxing I've started to do.

Though distilled water seems to be highly recommended in some quarters, there is also evidence to suggest it can have some bad long term affects too ,such as hair loss , due to deletion of minerals. As I've never used Distilled water myself ( just reverse osmosis few times ) I dont have much of opinion so was wondering if there was any one else here who had, or is in similar sort of situation ?

    cheers,

I had a Brita water filter, can remember the exact one but it was pretty sweet. Can't remember what I done with it, think it's in a cupboard somewhere!

    Re: Tap Water Alternatives ..?

I backed this project a few days ago to use with my OneGreenBottle. I play a lot of golf and fill up using the fountains dotted around the course so having a filter in the bottle will be great for me.

I hope it gets funded, it is a great idea.

Id don't really drink the water any way just use it in tea or coffee .

Seems your right about the taste , but not so sure about the filtering part.

    Re: Tap Water Alternatives ..?

You're trying to detox but drinking coffee?

Surely coffee is far worse than the odd bug in good old tap water?

Filtering takes away all the taste!

Well it depends where you are surely, in New York the water is said to be the reason the pizzas are so good.

For filtering out and about you can get a bottle with a filler on in waitrose. It's called bobble bottle I think.

    Re: Tap Water Alternatives ..?

Detoxing is a load of ....
Spend your money on some enjoyable but 'healthy' food instead IMHO.

Fluorine is tiny quantities is not harmful. There is some nonsense about how it's deliberately added to water to be harmful somehow, but in some places it occurs naturally in high levels, and is occasionally reduced if it's above certain levels. Ironically, bottled water (which some of these people recommend as an alternative) can contain just much or even more fluoride than tap water. Like a lot of substances which can be poisonous in high levels, fluorine is useful in small quantities.

Chlorine is also unpleasant if you come into contact with large amounts of the element, but as an ion in sodium chloride it's nice on chips...

IMO, just don't worry about it - tap water in the UK is completely fine to drink.

    Re: Tap Water Alternatives ..?

Brita water filter with cheap supermarket refills. Simply because water round here is horribly hard and I don't want to taste chalky bits in my coffee or have to descale. Also use filtered water in the steam iron to stop it clogging up.

Using for about 15 years and still have full head of hair

    Re: Tap Water Alternatives ..?

Don't waste your money avoiding tap water. The mineral content of fluoride is too low to have any detrimental effect. Likewise the contents of other minerals and nutrients are also classed as "trace" meaning you would need to drink a heck of alot to benefit / erm.. un-benefit from it.

Stick with tap water. Its cool. Ha. I made a joke
