    Steak & Gammon Inspiration

Ok Guys I need help (more so than normal!!)!!!

Got a freezer full Rump/Sirloin Steak and Gammon Steaks - my question being, what can I do other than grill/fry them and serve em up with chips and peas??

Deck has got a fair few good recipes for steak in the Cookery Book Forum but Im a bit stuck for different dishes for the gammon - anyone got any ideas for me?

Gammon fajitas? Sounds a bit wierd. Honestly, gammon is difficult to do anything else with but fry or grill, but will be delicious. However the steak could become all sorts of things, i like chilli made with steak. Serve it with a pepper sauce or like a philly cheese steak. Yum.

you could cube the gammon and use it in a risotto. I was referring to the steak for the fajitas

Yeh not too sure on gammon fajitas but steak fajitas would taste DAMN good!

Im really stuck as to what I could do with the gammon - other than make Butuz a very happy man (apparently)!

Im lacking inspiration because these were freebies from the restaurant so I see them practically every day served up the same way - I dont want to be sitting there eating my dinner and it resembling what I serve up there too much! Does that make sense?

Chop it up and use it like bacon in a pasta sauce perhaps? I think to get away from the whole 'gammon and chips' thing you may have to mod your steaks.

Yeah, Gammon chopped up with Plum Tomatos, Peas, some spices a touch of sugar to taste with nice fluffy boiled white rice.

Nice and easy to make too, nothing complicated, Spices shouldn't be too powerful tho.

Gammon might make a nice 'pea and ham' style soup? Also it'd probably go well instead of bacon in a carbonara.....

Go easy with the gammon when cooking it though. Gammon is basically pork with loads of salt in it to cure it, so its really salty. If you chop it up and then bung it in a sauce it'll come out VERY salty indeed, so either grill it first as a steak, then chop it up or chop it up, fry it off in a pan and tip out any juices as they form.

Use cream based sauces as they can take a bit of salt to make em taste nice.

DON'T add it raw to a sauce, the gammon will go chewy and over salt the sauce.

If you have to add it raw, soak the steaks in cold water for an hour or so before hand to help draw the salt out, then dry the steak off and use as you need to.
