    Zak's Weekend Vino guide

OK...people of the world UNITE . It is Saturday, and this evening you all need a few glasses of vino to make your taste buds scream out with happyness and your food to shake you by the tongue and say "thanks for that..it went with me very well indeed"

I have tried three new wines in the last week.....2 successfull....1 truly dire

    First up: http://www.majestic.co.uk/webapp/wcs...roductId=18751
    Paul Zinck's Reisling from Alsace.

OK..I asked the guy in Majestic for a lemony German flavour. Cos he knows what I MEANT, rather than what I actually asked for, he pushed me straight to this one.

It feels light and low on alcohol (it isn't) and it's sweeter than I normally like BUT it DID SHOUT LEMONS.....and few other flavours, which to me were smooth vanilla and cream soda. (Sad git award imminient) Sair hated it. She likes a bit more France and a bit less Saxony in her vino. I liked it enough to look forward to the other bottle...but I wont be buying it again cos its not "full up " enough.

Next: FAILURE ALERT.....dont fall for Marketing...don't ....don't...run the hell away

Goat's Do Roam in Villages, a very clever play on words, are an ok dinner wine , and good for a laugh (allegedly the goats were let loose and the vines they chose to eat from were used to make the red wine..nice story...crap idea as the grapes aren't even listed...).....is just NOT up to the job
    http://www.majestic.co.uk/webapp/wcs...archResultView
there is ASLO a white which is not listed and its worse The red has some flavour and character....but its just not got any life Its sloshable, quaffable and move-on-to-the-nextable. It would be ok for £3 but not for £7..not even close
note....tried it with a curry on the second bottle....was ok actually, and was less subtle than expected...it kinda hit back at the spices, but still not worthy

    and now for a SUCCESS.....

CHILI.....you are making me happier by the day.
This was pure luck...I had some vouchers as a gift for Oddbins...and Majestic don't sell this one...so double luck cos Majestic are my No1 shop....

    Trio.......I'll say it again....TRIO....and again, cos it's comedy T R I O

Lets start with the flavours of plums duff, christmas pudding, round deep red fruit with balck forest gateux and yet it tastes like red wine too!

    http://www.oddbins.com/products/Prod....asp?sku=89727

This is AWESOME WINE....it tastes like a £15 bottle...it needs very little time to "breathe" and frankly tastes bloody huge....really big...and round..and velvety..and sexxy. You can drink this while eating dark chocolate...or even dare I say it....chocolate moose or icecream. It strong and robust but it DOESNT burn....its smooth.

Guess who's fallen in lurve ?

    It's £6.....unreal

now don't forget...vino is PERSONAL.....but on the whole a bad wine is a bad wine. None of these are bad....just badly priced.

The Alsace white is gonna be OK for people who don't normally drink white because mostly white's are considered acidic or sharp or dry by non wine drinkers....this one is none of those things...at all. Its a good one on a hot evening straight from the fridge, but it goes SO SMOOTH AND FAST, don't stand up too quickly

The Goats do Roam in Villages is too expensive.... about £3 too much in my opinion.

and the TRIO is just bloody superb If you got a box of 6, they think its good for about 3 years...drink two this year....2 next year...and 2 the year after.

If the vin yard is right....it will be superb in 3 years...you can feel it.

Decent deal at Threshers as well on Campo Viejo 'Reserva Especial' Rioja. Two bottles for 12 quid instead of about a tenner each. Went in for my current fav - Radcliffes Beaujolais (with a screwtop - excellent idea) and they tempted me with a few slurps of the Rioja. Very nice tackle and went well with the sunday lunch.

Did the super-duper, everything included tour of Vinopolis on Monday. It was an eye opener, mainly as I learned that I dislike more wines than I like and that French wines tend to be the ones I like least.

    Drank some excellent absinth though
