Try the Fevertree lite range of mixers. They are the only low calorie mixers I have found that taste as good as the real thing. (Although if you are mixing with an alcoholic beverage, using a low calorie mixer seems a bit pointless!

That's because (along with the other "naturally light" tonics from Fentimans, Bottlegreen, and even Tesco Own brand), the difference is that they have a different type of sugar and less of it - no artificial sweeteners or even stevia...thus they taste "right"

I have an enormous Coke Zero habit which I only seem to be able to cut down on when I'm not at work for some reason...

Re: That "one cup too many" feeling?

I have recently got a Nespresso compatible machine (no frother) and "some" (250?) capsules for it. I have 2 a morning, sometimes 3, in quick succession. It sets me up nicely for the day and while I did initially have some sleep problems, they seem to be gone.

Don't really like instant or filter coffee. This way for like 15p + cost of milk I can have decent quality coffee at home. Would recommend for home or workplace.

Also, coffee is really good for you.

Re: That "one cup too many" feeling?

I tend to start the day with a shot of espresso (1x nespresso pod) but the rest of the day I just drink tea. 3-4 cups a day is normal these days, i've cut down a lot (used to be nearly 1 an hour up until 8pm). I try not to drink caffeine after 4pm or it can risk keeping my mind racing too much into the early hours. Will switch to decaff though if I do fancy a hot drink the evening (and usually a decaff nespresso latte with a double shot of Jameson if its a weekend ). Depends if I have any of the non chemically decaffeinated tea in the house (it can be hard to find!).

Very rarely drink cola these days - I was a big fan of Coke Life when they had that in the UK..didn't have the revolting taste of coke zero/diet coke/pepsi max/etc and not quite as much of a sugar rush as regular coke. I was sad when they dropped it..they should have kept life and got rid of Zero imo but hey ho.

Interesting. I don't notice any after taste with aspartame, but sucralose even in small amounts tastes horrible.

Though note that anyone on a low FODMAP diet has to avoid them like the plague.

A single of clear spirit is around 55 calories. 200ml of conventional soft drink is ~ 80 calories. Swap that for a diet version and you're saving more than half the calories. Even if you're drinking doubles it's still saving ~ 40% of the calories...

EDIT: yes, I missed this part of the post originally. spotted it in the quote above, and thought it was worth pointing out just how many calories you save moving to a low-calorie mixer

I've worked out that on average, I consume in the region of 1000mg of caffine a day, with about 8 cups of coffee and 2L of Cola

Suffice to say my caffine tolerance is rather high...
