The meat burgers are really nasty, backed up with a box of salt with a couple of fries hiding in it to call it a "meal". The kids drag me there occasionally, I think it you are under 16 on a pocket money budget it is the only place to get a snack with your mates. To be fair, I think their chicken products are better than the KFC burgers they seem to be trying to compete with, not that the bar there is high but I can eat those.

They don't use polystyrene, they have been using recyclable paper - imagine if they sold a Vegan burger in a foam box, they would be out for blood!!

Re: McDonalds releases a product we've all been waiting for...

I'm not entirely sure how they can sell a vegan product, given it'll likely be cooked on the same grill as the burgers and suffer from cross-contamination. Even if it's one of the ones where they stick it in a giant industrial toaster to cook it like the McChicken, still gonna share trays / baskets with meat products.

Well good luck finding your locally sourced, organic, fair trade vegan burger at 2am on the M1. Or post pub in 90% of British towns.

don't think many Vegans would risk it with the change for contamination , then again don't think most burgers from McDonalds have any decent meat in them

... while most vegan brits wouldn't go in a McDonalds on principle!
Nor would I, but it's nothing to do with being vegan, 'cos I ain't.

Now that, I have to dispute, forcefully. My issue with McD's isn't that it's tasteless .... it's the way it does taste, which is of something rather dubious, marinated in salt.

I do enjoy a nice burger, but it starts with high quality meat from the butcher, and I'll make it myself. It's dead easy to do, takes about a minute, tastes way better and I KNOW what's in it.

My complaint is £1 of chips from my local chippy fills me up more than a standard meal from McD's. The drink from McD's often fills me up more than the actual meal.

Tend to agree - one of our local fried Chicken shops, does the same. KFC,is like £4 for a burger and they sell their equivalent for like £3 with chips. Tried it and the chips were so much it was like the burger was really surplus to requirements!!

Another agreement from me too, which is why I haven't eaten there for a few years.

In addition, it seemed to me as time went on that it became rarer that any requested changes from the default (such as not wanting certain toppings on the burger) would actually be followed.

The rare time I'm there all i order is a large drink and a toffee sundae. Cheaper and better than a meal

You may have a point there.

I don't think I'd bother with the drink, but I guess I could be tempted to visit again to buy a McFlurry if the mood struck me.

Re: McDonalds releases a product we've all been waiting for...

So, related note, I tried a thing lately - a meatball sandwich made from "Impossible Burger" meat - a vegan meat substitute made from wheat, coconut, potato, and genetically engineered soy. Its selling point is it tastes like meat, and even bleeds like meat when cooked rare.

The sandwich was... okay. It was a competent soft meatball, albeit with the flavour masked by the tomato sauce in the sandwich. Okay is a ringing endorsement, compared to awful non-meats like Quorn!

I'd still want to try it in burger form to get a full feel for the taste, and see what range of texture is possible to achieve (I prefer firmer meatballs).
