I used to agree entirely with that .... until I spent some time with induction.

    Likewise.

Induction is probably more efficient - although gas is a less expensive fuel (and of course the waste heat goes into heating the kitchen) but the controllability of induction equals that of gas, and the construction makes it much easier to keep clean - both day to day and when you get the inevitable spills. And when you do get a spill, it doesn't burn on.

Induction hobs can also be turned into rail guns.

    This is important.

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

As far as I'm concerned, about a month past never.

Induction, yes. Smart? I'll be cooking barbeque in the fires of hell first.

I saw one of the Anova Sous Vide cooking heaters has bluetooth connectivity for a smart phone <sigh>

On the other hand, I suppose using a phone as a remote control is akin to using any dedicated remote for (say) a TV.

I'm not aware of my TV remote control gathering data about me, or "phoning home". I also have light switches with remote on/off/dim, but no outside connectivity. I have several remote-controlled mains sockets, including my PC, peripherals and router.

For that matter, I have remotes capable of controlling model helicopters and quad drones - no dial home there either.

That, for me, is the crucial difference - it's very hard ti be sure what "your" smartphone is recordinv about you, or who either it or apps on it are sending it to.

The point I was trying to make was 'why do you need remote control of a cooking appliance!'

Of course with pi-hole you can see (and stop) an application phoning home!

So I can turn off the dinner if it boils over during Eastenders?

Personal Note : I, myself, personally, would not be caught dead watching Eastenders. The example was generic.

given the choice of mains gas, I'd be with you... but I don't have it.
