What's it's intended shelf life? If it's two years and it's one week out of date, it'll be fine. If it's only a week, and it's a week out of date, that's a bit more dodgy....

To qualify Rave's and 'rai's statements...

If its a fresh product with a short shelf life, you'd be best off not bothering... a two week life and being a further week out of date is well dodgy.

However, a long shelf life and being a wekk over isn't as bad... and they usually give these things plenty of leeway for consumers abusing storage conditions etc.

BUT... be careful, with packaged products, the bacteria that may be reproducing will be doing so without any oxygen as this is a sealed packet... The ones that can do this are really pretty nasty fellas, botulism being the most famous/notorious... no amount of cooking will help you there as it's the toxins the bacteria produce that make you ill, not the bacteria themselves, so it doesn't matter how well you cook the food, the poisons are still in it...
