How do you brew your coffee?

    Hi all,

I'm a bit new round these parts and decided I'd start by posting about my other love coffee!

I'm curious how people prefer to brew their coffees? For the past year or so I've make it using a 6 cup percolator (mokka pot). The coffee is great but as I like a strong cup and really pack the basket to the brim I get through a lot of coffee this way. An alternative would be use my Aeropress which I stopped using some time ago. I used to enjoy the coffee from this but I think I've become used to the stronger coffee of the mokka pot...

I should add I like to split my mokka coffee pot coffee, drink roughly half of it in the morning and take the rest into work with me....

Re: How do you brew your coffee?

Friend of mine bought an aeropress recently. Used it, washed it up and left it by the sink to dry.

All was well until his girlfriend got home, saw it and demanded an explanation. Apparently she assumed it was used for other purposes when she wasn't around to assist with those purposes.

Insert your own beans/extraction/grinding jokes here.

Re: How do you brew your coffee?

I use the microwave to warm some milk, and then I put the mug with milk under the spout of the bean to cup machine and press the go button. It does needs water & bean top ups, and bin emptying, but nothing too tedious.

I've started liking coffee more now that it is easy to make
Thankfully we have a similar machine at work.

Interesting, I was gifted a blade based grinder by a mate for my birthday a few years back. I did prefer the coffee from it but its hard to really get a good consistent grind with the right particle size... (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere.... )

So I've been thinking recently maybe for my birthday I should get myself a burr grinder, how long have you had it? Would you recommend it? Anything that you find annoying about it?

I think it's great. The exterior materials are a little cheap and plasticky but it looks fine and it only costs £35. It's easy to clean, I've had it for about a year I think, making 3 cups a day on it. Can change the grind size easily. Does what it says on the tin. No need to pay more for a flashy one unless you want or need something that looks flashy.

I've got a burr grinder and grain size is still massively mixed - you can adjust the grinder aperture but the beans still fracture into various sizes. Buying pre-ground is more consistent probably unless you spend big.

I've got an ancient Bravomat. Stainless steel and made for small scale catering. It's been in daily use for over 25 years. So old the hot plate and jug warmer stay on all day and it makes great coffee.

She usually comes up with the refill pot and pours, while mumbling something like, "Garḉon means 'boy' " and then shuffles off.... but shortly after that I draw a gun and we rob the place, so grammatical accuracy isn't really a concern at this stage.

I used to drink filter coffee everyday but when covid started i got myself a bean to cup machine and its the best thing i bought since you can set the coffee strength and amount. Now i have homemade lattes everyday.
