    Favourite Chicken Seasonings

I'm finally cooking again but aiming to keep it simple to begin with.

Currently enjoying Scwartz Classic BBQ seasoning on pan fried chicken breast.

It's largely good ingredients. Just not so keen on the anti-caking agent, I often wonder how useful these are when I have no problems with 100% salt either fine or coarse.

However, at nearly £2 a go for all of 44g I wondered if anyone had any favourite seasonings or own custom blends to recommend. Happy with a medium to high spice.

I've also used those maggi So Tender season wraps, good but got bored of them a while ago

    Re: Favourite Chicken Seasonings

We sort of cheat. We get Simply Cook packets, so a full recipe for a meal with three pots of spices that are used at various points during cooking.

We often substitute or add chicken into recipes, so they usually work out as chicken seasoning for us

Just bought an air fryer though, like so many others, to try and reduce the cost of running a fan oven at current leccy prices. That makes this thread quite timely for me

    Re: Favourite Chicken Seasonings

We've been having this recently (they do a few different styles too) , quite nice and when it ran out I kinda of recreated it from the list of ingredients we had around the house and although different tasting it was pretty good still.

Air fryer is my Next purchase, but I want the dual Ninja one and £180 is hard to justify.

    Re: Favourite Chicken Seasonings

I've been thinking of an Air fryer
Does seem to do everything an oven does in half the time & cost

Likewise I like the look of the Ninja Air Fryer & Grill combo...

I'll check out morrisons. Rarely go there as my local is nothing like the northern ones I've been to.

That's the one I got. Pretty easy for us to justify as the kids never seem to want what I'm cooking as a main meal, so the fan over goes on for our meal, then one of the kids cooks something, then the other. The damned fan oven is on half the evening (often just for a tray of chips or something), which at current electricity prices is bonkers.

Air fryers seem to be in the news, so are selling out. I got mine direct from Ninja, but even they were out of stock when I last looked.

Only tried the fryer once so far, which was on roast setting for an off the shelf vegetable lasagne. The cheese on top burned so perhaps bake would have been better. Or just a lower temperature. But I hadn't tried one of those before in the fan oven to compare it against but I suspect I wouldn't have liked it cooked conventionally either

    Re: Favourite Chicken Seasonings

Air fryers and Ninja Foodie things are booming because they cost less to run than a conventional or fan-assisted electric oven.
I only know this because we have such an oven and now the Ttaskmistress gets to be all smug about the Ninja thing she randomly bought instead of a rice cooker... although she's after a dedicated air fryer too, as it has a higher capacity.

    Anyway, regarding chicken seasonings...
Hop up your local South African shop (or look online) and find their stuff. In particular there is the Robertson range of spices and seasonings, at least one of which is specifically for chicken... but really most of them are interchangable. The rice one works great on pork chops, the chops one works great on chicken, all of them work fantastic on barbecues (because braai culture, innit) and they're not really that expensive.
