    induction hotplate - any experiences to share?

    Hello
    At last have just ordered an induction hotplate, after wanting one since seeing it on Tomorrows World many years ago.
    Anyone have experience using them, maybe some observations of what they can't do so well?
    I know that the pans have to be of ferrous material. Will have to replace my aluminium stockpot if using the new induction is worthwhile. But all my pans are magnet sticky.
    When I worked at a american charge card company in Brighton 19 years ago I used to love watching the making of an omelette on an induction hotplate, the speed and control was dazzling! Can't wait to crack open some eggs!

    oh dear!
    Assumed that 'cos all my saucepans were shiny silver that they would be magnetic - but they're not.
    Time for a new set of pans.

    Found myself in Debenhams yesterday and unfortunately I had stumbled into a 25% sale day.
    So I was confronted with 2 choices - 1) walk out without a cookware bargain; or 2) purloin a Jamie Oliver Professional Proper Pukka Pan set.
    Must have had some sort of breakdown as I found myself mockneying through Worthing with me pans in me barrow.
    Cooked up some home made burgers in a saute pan on the induction and it was better than I had imagined.
    Incredibly quick heating. Digital range across a scale of ten gave complete control and was able to leave the second round of burgers cooking whilst eating the first round and had no need to check the food every 30 seconds. Food was cooked perfectly and tender.
    Induction is even meant to be cheaper to run, so from now on if I can't steam it I'm gonna induction it.

    edit: p.s. just had a friend come round and she wanted some hot chocolate. I still cannot believe how quickly the milk boiled before my eyes! And again total control to keep the milk at the just bubble-frothing point. Excellent!

    Ive used a single ring induction hob in halls all last year. Other than the fact is was the only ring we had between 12 people is was very nice!
    - I saw certianly very supprised as quite how powerfull it was, certinaly compaired to the weedy thing we have in our student house this year.
    - It was a 2500watt Ital and certainly very nice to use, although amidtly i only really made spagbot, or a bacon sarni!
