We have just moved into a new house. The electric hobs did not have any marks on them when we moved in but not there are burnt on marks.
What's the best way to clean them? Are there any special cleaning products I can buy?

i use random cleaning products i happen to have to hand and leave it to soak for a while and then rub away with a textured cloth. It's actually an old fasioned floor cloth i use, but works well for the hob too.
What type of electric hob is it? ie. are they solid plates, electric rings or glass top?
If they're solid plate then there's some stuff that you can get from diy type shops that you put on a bit like shoe polish, turn the rings on full blast and it brings them back to new black.
If it's old fashioned rings then just scrub em.
If it's glass top, which I doubt by the sounds, anything will clean them.
If only. My ceramic hob has a glass top and is almost impossible to clean, especially if anything containing tomatoes gets burned on...Originally Posted by rox0r
I do that, then leave to cool then wipe a teeny bit of cooking oil onto the hot plate, turn it onto a medium setting for a minute or so, makes your hotplates look lovelyOriginally Posted by rox0r
just thought i would add: what i do above is for cleaning the area *around* the actual plates. not had to clean the actual plates yet

but on my cooker. I'm sure the polish stuff is the correct thing to use?
Yup, that's the stuff you need. I can't remember the brand name atm I'll have a look when I get in from work.
Bit o' shoe polish'll see you right.
Probably black though, not tan...
Any idea?Originally Posted by rox0r

I completely forgot to look, sorry fella. I'll be back at home tomorrow I'll make a note to look.
Finally remembered.
Stuff is called Electrol - Kochplatten Reiniger by COLLO. German obviously, picked it up at the diy shop for 3 quid.
You can buy special cleaner/polish for glass top hobs, its white grainy stuff. I have a glass top hob and bought the cleaner when in Denmark, but I'm sure they sell it here somewhere. It gets the glass looking perfect again.Originally Posted by phykell
