    Fish and Chip shop recommendations

    Hi

I do quite a bit of travelling due to work and about every three weeks or so I get a craving for some ol' fish and chips

You know what I'm talking about, a nice large piece of Cod with crispy batter and chunky chips yum yum.

So my question is, can any of you recommend establishments that fit the bill so that I can take a list with me?

    Cheers

    Mitch aka pctechxp

    Another vote here for Diablero's

Or the Blue Lagoon under the bridge on Argyle Street in Glasgow (ok don't actually go here as one of the worst chippies ever)

    Eye popping good!
There was a funny quote here

The Brig, Dunfermline is great. The Rapido on Broughton St, Edinburgh is also excellent.

Townhead chippie at Penrith - a 1 mile off the M6.

Fontanas on London Road, Carlisle. About 2 miles from the M6 using junction 42.

    Another Scottish recommendation.

Doesn't look as if they have many decent fish and chip shops outside outside Scotland. Must all be curry houses down there now

The blue dolphin on the St Helier Estate in Sutton. Grotty looking place in a grotty area, but great fish and chips.
    Not around too often!

You big girl wanting ketchup! Nothing beats chip shop sauce like what you got. Wonderful stuff!

Stein's Fish Bar - Padstow (by the quay), Cornwall was the best I've ever had: Fried in beef dripping, I'm salivating thinking about it. And not as dear as it sounds...

The demise of the chippy south of the border is an acute problem though, in most towns instead of a decent chippy, you're more likely to find somewhere with a really cr@p name like "Finger Lickin' Chicken"; "Nantucket Fried Chicken"; or "Krispy Bazooka Chicken", where they serve fries instead of big fat chips, and any cod they get is bought in pre-battered.

Lau's is a great Chinese chippy on Smithdown Rd, Liverpool (more for insane quantities rather than quality though).

Virtually every chipshop in Devon and Cornwall is great

Or at least they all seem that way, after 7 years of living in SE London (the land of southern fried chicken) I still cannot find a decent chippy

Back home (Plymouth) good chippies are everywhere!

Obviously the UKs extremeties are sorted but the middle is seriously lacking
