    Macaroni Cheese, easy?

Im looking for a basic (student) recipe for macaroni cheese.
    - Searching the web the range of recipes is huge, from a knocked together slosh that sounds inedable, to a 3 hour mission, with an ingredence list i can even read!

So has anyone got a simple but taste macaroni recipe that im going to have the ingredence for!
    - Had a search on here but couldnt find much reference to macaroni.

melt butter in pan, with flour. you're going for a paste effect. this is called roux
stir in milk. this is where you pick the base consistancy - more milk = thinner. this is called béchamel
add grated cheese until it's sufficiently cheesy. this is called cheese sauce
presumably you can manage boiling some pasta

oh, and for something more interesting, try using a blue cheese (e.g. stilton) instead of cheddar, or adding a fair whack of cumin & chilli powder to a basic cheddar cheese sauce

Do as hex says. If you want to get srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy, bash up a bag of crisps, sprinkle the crisp bits on top of your macaroni cheese (in a dish) and bung it under the grill 'till it's nice.
    PHP Code:

You can also add some English mustard to the sause, thats quite nice. My brother makes great Macaroni Cheese, although it usually turns out to be a slice you get rather than a spoon full

I layer pasta and grate (sharp) cheeder. I then sprinkle flavored breadcrumbs over the top. Then I add an egg and milk mixture over the top anb bake it. By doing it this way things you get somewhere between the more liquid and the solid mac and cheese.

Ok, so you make a white source, add cheese (cheese source), then mixed this with (cooked) pasta, sling it in a dish, and sprinkle cheese (and breadcrumbs?) over the lot, and bake for a while?

    Sounds doable!

I like doing it with a mix of cheeses - makes for a better flavour, a mix of Parmigiano Reggiano, Cheddar and whatever else I have in the fridge.

Hmmm, yes but, I like mac/cheese sandwiches. Wait 'til the stuff gets cold and slice into sandwich size slices. Serve with mango chutney and mayo.
