Christmas dinner - What are you planning?

Starting to think about what I'm going to have for dinner on crimbo. Don't like turkey so prob down to chicken, lamb or beef.

    What's everyone else planning?
What veg are you gonna have?
Do you ever cook something differently because it's christmas?

Also, what is your perfect christmas meal?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    a homemade ham.
homemade stuffing cooked underneath pork so it goes all crispy round the edges
sausage & bacon rools made with wild boar sausage meat from the butchers down the road
ROast parsnips, potatoes, and maybe sweet potato
    real gravy
    trifle for pudding.
Can you tell food is important in my house, spend about half the day eating on christmas, wouldnt want it any other way.

Well i'm going to family down in Glasgow. Mum has made the dumpling (not a fan) and i think she said something about trifle too (again, not a fan).

I think i'm helping her make some mackerel pate and some oatcakes. There are a few vegetarians in our family, not sure what they will be having.

Other than that, just the usual turkey etc. i would expect.

Seconded, as far as I know that's what were doing this year. Had Turkey & Duck last year, was very nice and I'm not usually a fan of duck

Done the Goose the last few years. Massive rib cage and oodles of fat. If you're are tempted by Oliver on tele then plan about double what you think you'll need. No meat on a Goose at all. Despite Nigella wanting me to grease Her maris pipers with my dripping, I'd go for a Duck or Chicken tbh. Need a good free range turkey in my area rather than the tasteless dry drivel Im used to for Xmas day, boxing day salad, turkey a la king, turkey currey, etc, etc...

I think its time people had fillet steak for xmas dinner instead of dry tasteless meats like turkey.

out of interest does anyone else here hate turkey.

    errr, no?

Nah I agree that its surprising more people haven't changed over, but I get fillet steak on Christmas eve, so to have it on christmas day would jus be boring

I'm visiting family in America, leaving on Saturday. Apparently they deep-fry whole turkeys there...

But at home we usually have a duck, much nicer than turkey /lick lips

My brother is working Xmas day(works on a fish farm) so won't be getting here until late on Xmas evening. We've decided to push Xmas back onto boxing day which is cool with us, means we can sit down as a family for the BIG dinner.

As we did last year, we're going to have a nice big BBQ on Xmas day(my family LOVE our BBQ whatever the weather). So technically my Xmas day dinner will be loads of kinds of meat(Pork, Beef, Bacon, Sausages(2 varieties), Chicken, Lamb etc) and absolutely no veg(apart from baked beans).

Have a good one everybody ;D

Spinach and riccotta cannelloni with 5 cheese topping Yum!

Best served with a side salad (mozerella, basil, tomato, sundried tomatos, xv olive oil, green pesto, black pepper) though it goes well enough with roast veg.

If the weathers the same as two years ago it'll be christmas on the beach

Christmas Day I've got 3 meals lined up.

3 damn feasts of dry turkey, various bits of plants and vegetables we feel we can only eat once a year lashed with potatoes cooked in about 10 different methods.

I've already been and explained to my father that Bernard Matthews wouldn't be happy if the Turkey he cooks has the same texture and consistancy to the grade-40 sandpaper in the local DIY store.

    Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle

I have to disagree with turkey being tasteless if anything it has more flavour than chicken.

I have wanted to try goose but the mofo is bloody expensive, I saw them for £40 is tesco.

Wow sounds exactly like the meal for our Christmas, apart from the trifle bit (home-made chocolate Christmas log ftw )
