New build not showing all RAM

    Hi all,
I've searched around for an answer to my issue and while I have found similar issues, none of the suggested resolutions work for me.

Ive just built a new rig consisting of:

    Gigabyte UD4P
    Core i7 920
    6Gb Corsair RAM (1333MHz)
    Vista 64 Home Prem
    ati 4850

The problem is that its only showing 4094Mb in windows although its showing 6144Mb in CPUZ..
Any ideas? Ive tried both colour dimm slots, cleared cmos, tried with 1, then 2 etc...

    Wheres my 2Gbs gone?

is it a 32 bit OS, as they can only see up to 4gb.

    64 bit can see more

    so more info needed!!

    what does task manager say?
    paging?
    memtest results?
    bios update needed?
bad ram, try it in another system (although finding another ddr3 system wont be easy)
    dodgy connection, try different ram

could just RMA it and try the next sett

there should be a option under chipset settings.to enable the chipset to see more than 4gb it will be called bios memory hole or something like that. it that does not work then it will be a bois update i think

I thought the saga had ended but Im still trying to resolve the issue!

I thought the bios update did the trick but while it is showing 6Gb in the windows vista welcome centre the bios only shows 2Gb. It also looks like the system is only using 2Gb (I can tell from the task manager)..

The bios was sent to me by Gigabyte tech support. They are working on a resolution at the moment so Im hoping for a result soon as its getting very frustrating now.

As per alsenior's earlier post, have you enabled Memory Remapping in the BIOS?

Unfortunately, it seems there is no feature of this kind in the award bios for this board, not that I have been able to find at any rate & from what I've read online this doesn't seem to feature on x58 boards - but I could be wrong!

Re: New build not showing all RAM

On my UD5 one of the sticks of RAM was faulty (Corsair PC1333 9-9-9-24). The BIOS never saw it but CPU-Z did.

Going through all the sticks individually showed the problem (instability was doing my head in and Memtest wouldn't work on that BIOS) and the PC wouldn't even boot with only that stick installed.

The board itself died soon afterwards, but both the RAM and board were faulty and replaced by Scan (the CPU was fine, as I sent that back too as the memory controller is on the CPU of course), but I'm fairly sure this particular issue was the RAM module itself in my case.

Blimey, you didn't have much luck either!
I have since ordered more ram from scan which arrives later today so fingers crossed. I just hope its not a motherboard issue as its a pain having to take that out and put the noctua cooler back on a new board! I'll let you know later how I get on with the new ram.

It does seem like a ram issue for me as the pc will only boot with one of the sticks, the same stick every time & I've tried it quite a few times with each. I just want it up and running!

Sounds like the same thing as mine if your RAM is the same then. My replacement RAM has been fine (touch wood) (and Scan didn't take long at all to test it and replace it). Only difference is that mine was 1 stick out of 6 which is dodgy, while you've had 2 out of 3 by the sounds of it.

I just received the 3 new sticks and.... works perfectly! It does seem strange that 2 sticks could have been faulty but these things happen I guess - at least I now have a system with 6Gb ram! woohooo!

thanks for all your help & suggestions - its much appreciated.
