    Quick RAM upgrade query

I recently built a core i7 system which is great.. Ive noticed the price of DDR3 is dropping so I am considering upgrading my Corsair 6GB PC3-10666 to 12Gbs.. (I do a lot of photoshop work)

The 6Gbs I have are are 'matched' so if I add another 6Gb of the same ram is there any downside? I know it will work but will I lose performance from not buying a 12Gb 'matched' kit?

A 12GB "matched kit" is just 6 sticks in a packet instead of 3 for the 6GB kit, it's all the same 2GB Sticks if they have the same SKU 99% of the time, will be fine!

    It's 4.98*

Should be fine, unless you're overclocking the pants off it.
If you're not overclocking any ram of the same speed & voltages & timeings should work happly together. It's generally best to buy the same make and spec because of the small chance of it not being happy.

EDIT: Although you must be working of some pritty big multi layerd honking images if 6gb isn't cutting it.

6Gbs is fine at the moment. I was just considering the options as the price for 6Gb has dropped about £50 since I bought my 6Gbs and looks like it will drop even more once DDR3 becomes more mainstream..

It probably is overkill but sometimes I just cant help myself!
