Ram came through but its not working.

I put both sticks in and when it boots up it says its in dual channel mode etc, but when i go to control panel and system it shows 1GB but the first time it booted up and told me i was in dual channel mode it sent me to the bios? i dont know if i was ment to change anything.#

oh and another thing, on the bios it says ive got 2048 of phyical ram but still dont understand why it still only says 1GB on the system part when i go to performance and maintanace

Vista? try run>msconfig>boot>advanced panel, under max memory if its ticked, untick and reboot PC then check again.

Not sure if this remains the same for XP but worth checking.

Re: Ram came through but its not working.

Check your boot.ini file in the root of the boot drive, see if it lists a maxmem value.

If you can't find it (bear in mind you need to set hidden and system files to viewable to see it), go to System Settings --> Advanced --> Startup and recovery and click on Edit.

I haven't used XP in a long time, so I hope that's right.

You should have installed Windows 7 RC1 instead as it is free until March.
