Re: A good time to buy RAM??
Considering the price it was ~6months ago (£80+), if you plan to upgrade any time soon I would say yes.

If I do intend to upgrade it will be at second half of next year. Ideally, I want to wait until Sandy Bridge,Bulldozer and Llano are released.
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
Well it's hardly a poor investment is it. Go for the cheapest kit you can find and it should hold its value imo.
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
The only real problem I can see for buying now, for use later would, be if it's faulty, otherwise ram is at a good price right now.
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
Sorry if this has been posted/answered already elsewhere, but what Ram will Sandybridge use? I'm presuming DDR3, but what speeds? As at some point I feel upgrading my pc is on the cards, and yeah as ram is dirt cheap atm, it makes sense to get the ram for it now?
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
Been watching ram for a short while, and it now seems on the way down for some sticks, ebuyer started it with the corsair 4gb around £38 I recall reading that ram was due for forecast/decrease.
It was not this site I read it on, but the jist of the article is the same

Re: A good time to buy RAM??
when is DDR5 going to come out?

Re: A good time to buy RAM??
Most RAM come with a lifetime warranty so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. Also if you buy it before the rest of it then you have less of an outlay later :p
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
There was a mention of bulldozer using quadchannel ram. Buying four sticks now seems like a good investment.
I would read up first though as I could have been havaing a moment.....
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
I've been watching the price of RAM over the past few weeks. The price seems to be decaying daily.
I might wait for a 2x4GB kit before I buy again.
(I can mix RAM so that I have 2x2GB and 2x4GB, right?)

Technically there should be no problems doing this, just try and make sure you the same voltage as your original ram sticks.
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
What would be handy, would be a link/links to the falling ram prices, a kind of price watch thread.
Re: A good time to buy RAM??
I cant see DDR3 going back up significantly in 2011 or 2012 if anything just going down.
Just from memory, DDR and DDR2 once they were established, like DDR3 is
now, stayed low.
I also reckon in 2011 that 4GB sticks will become a lot more common and that you will be able to
pick up 4GB sticks for close to £20 each
