Just bought 4gb of PC2-8500 ram. Worth keeping 2gb of PC2-6400 Ram in?
Hey guys,
I've been editing a load of GoPro video camera footage from my recent charity Tour de France (ferocious5.jux.com) and have grown beyond tired of waiting numerous seconds for the computer to catch up every time I click something in the editing software. I only had 2gb (Although sometimes comes up as only 1.5gb?) of Crucial Ballistix, so opted to get some OCZ Reaper 4GB PC2-8500 DDR2 for £35.
My question is, will it be better to only run the 4gb at 8500 speed or put the 2gb Crucial RAM in as well and have all 6gb run at 6400 (I'm still assuming that computers run all RAM at the speed of the slowest RAM).
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Christian.

What version of Windows do you have, and is it 32bit or 64bit? If it's the former then Windows won't even see more than 4GB total addressable memory, so it's pointless keeping the 2GB kit in! If you do have 64bit, then personally I'd try just the 4GB kit first for a couple of days, then add the 2GB kit back in and see if it makes any difference (after all, installing RAM only takes a few seconds!).
