Quad Channel Kits almost as cheap as Tri Channel
Just a wee observation:
12GB Corsair 16000 DDR3 £84.14 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/12gb-...10-27-xmp-150v
16GB Corsair 16000 DDR3 £85.39 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/16gb-...e-jet-black-lp
Is now the time to buy Tri Channel as it won't be getting any cheaper for us X58 users or are quad kits going to be fine to use as long as we leave out the 4th dimm?
Re: Quad Channel Kits almost as cheap as Tri Channel
I would imagine that getting a quad channel kit and leaving one of the dimms out would work just as well as getting the tri channel kit, plus you could potentially make a bit back by selling the unused dimm though that might be a problem if you need a warranty claim, but I have only rarely had memory fail.
Re: Quad Channel Kits almost as cheap as Tri Channel
You could use all four sticks and drop down to dual channel if the huge memory bandwidth of triple channel isn't important to you, generally, there is virtually no practical advantage of having triple over dual.
Re: Quad Channel Kits almost as cheap as Tri Channel
The sticks are the same. If you use 3 sticks of 'quad channel memory' or 'dual channel memory' on a triple channel motherboard, it will act as triple channel.
