    Selecting Memory

    Hello everyone.

I'm in the process of ordering equipment for my new build but i'm unsure which memory to choose for the following:

    ASRock Z77E-ITX.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ls_o00_s00_i00

Considering the I7-3770K or i5-3570K for CPU but haven't decided. looking for 16GB for mainly gaming. Have had issues in the past with compatibility so would like advice.

    Regards

    Re: Selecting Memory

I would say you are pretty safe with any Corsair Vengeance LP, either from the compatibility, height or OC-ability point of view.

On the other hand, if you go to the manufacturers website for this particular motherboard, on the left top side you can find the Memory Support List. ( or follow this link : http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77E-ITX/?cat=Memory )

    Re: Selecting Memory

Memory support lists are not exhaustive and a particular set of memory not being on it is not really a concern.

Any common memory kits should work with any common motherboard.

    Re: Selecting Memory

If i was going ITX and had the cash i would get Samsung Green memory. Very low profile, low voltage at stock speeds and will overclock massively if you want it to.

    Re: Selecting Memory

It's really very rare for memory to overclock much, manufacturers have a very good idea what the memory is capable of and advertise it at those speeds.

    Re: Selecting Memory

Just get whatever sized DDR3 RAM that suits your needs. Even cheap RAM will run nicely.

Corsair XMP RAM and even Corsair value RAM are good for its price and run it in dual channel (8GB x2).

    Re: Selecting Memory

The cheapest branded RAM will do the job. You can make any RAM low profile by removing the heatsink.

True there. Had some Corsair Vengeance RAM, with the massive heat sinks. Had to remove them when my H100i went Push/Pull. Still worked a treat. Have since replaced them with Corsair Vengeance LP. The Low profile RAM would work a treat. Never had a need for overclocking. Just whacked the XMP on profile 1 and get 1600MHz

£110m for 1600 speed RAM? You must be kidding. I got CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9 for just over £70. It's another £10 now, but still a bargain: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/16gb-...s-9-10-9-27-xm

    Re: Selecting Memory

I'd probably recommend going for corsair XMS3 clocked at 1600MHz. Good RAM, not paying a premium for it looking pretty.

Samsung green if your going small form factor. Low profile, low voltage and overclocks brilliantly!

    Re: Selecting Memory

like everyone else corsair Vengeance LP are great Ive used them, their overclock-able i have got mine up to 18mhz.
Question though why would you need 16GB of memory most games really only use 8GB. Unless your going to be doing some intensive work such as using Adobe Photoshop or Premiere it's a bit overkill

    Re: Selecting Memory

Samsung ram is hard to find at the moment. I think Overclockers stock them.

Even so RAM prices are relatively high now then what they were a week ago. If you're not in the market for RAM now, i'd wait a little for prices to go down before pulling the trigger. Crucial Ballistix LP Ram was going for around £33 at one point.

Also in terms of capacity, 8GB is plenty for your needs.

Agree. The prices rose unexpectedly in the last 2 months (well, unexpectedly, we all know what happened on the memory chip market).

Samsung is hard to find indeed and Crucial is good.
