1055T - 16Gb 1333mhz or 8gb 1866mhz ram?
As per the title I have recently came into possession of a 1055t which I plan to overclock.
The system will be used as my secondary video/photo editor with some light gaming (AMD 7750 1GB).
I haven't found my overclock limits yet but know 1866 ram with give more headroom but of course 16gb will have some advantages of 8gb.
Of course would the faster ram really benefit this processor/architecture all that much?
Most research is pointing to 1600mhz which doesn't help.
As you would imagine this is budget build so no new parts are to be bought.

More ram is almost always better than faster ram. But I do know Memory bandwidth helps with rendering. Depends how much ram you will fill up editing. If you go over 8GB, the 16GB ram will be many times faster.

With newer CPUs I would say faster RAM really does help in some games.
However,with the Phenom II X6 you have and the fact its image and video editing,MOAR RAM is better. It means you are less likely to use the page file or scratch file.

Would suggest an SSD if you don't have one for it, above upgrade from 8 to 16gb. A good SSD though, SATA 2.5" is fine as long as it's fast and reliable.

In many respects it won't really be used for rendering as I basically keep live jobs on a USB3 external drive and work form that while at the second location (this PC).
So it just needs to be snappy for live previews etc.
I guess I shouldn't run into overclocking problems with 1333mhz ram as I could move the multiplier down as I bump the bus speed up to keep it around 1333mhz.
I suppose I could try the 8GB 1866mhz and check if thats enough but also slow it down to 1333mhz and see if any difference is made (test frame rates on a multicam job previews)
Will be running an SSD.
I agree page/scratch files are not wanted, my main PC has 16GB ram for this very reason.

Even if its faster,when you are editing larger files,I think the extra RAM is worth it,just so you don't hit the page file or scratch disk.
However,CPU-NB frequency and faster RAM did help the Phenom II X6 as it was quite bandwidth limited:

If I were you I would go for 16gb. Video editing will benefit from having more ram and less likely to crash out.

The plot thickens, so it seems pushing the NB will benefit the system, of course being a multiplier locked processor I have to push the fsb any way but its interesting to see that may be better to push as far as possible and maybe every bring the cpu multi down to achieve it.

I'd keep it at stock for a week before tweaking
That Phenom is all about the 6 cores not the clock.
If you want clck speed, restrict the apps to using 3 cores max and the turbo will up the core speed a tad. As soon as the 4th or more cores kick in the clock drops.
A good cooler will keep it quiet.
I have a 1045 and while it will go as fast as a 1055 it's not made much difference really.
More ram :) and an SSD is the way forward

Yep,its well known the Phenom II X6 is memory bandwidth limited,since you need to imagine the Phenom II X4 probably has similar memory bandwidth IIRC,spread over less cores.
OTH,more memory probably will put more stress on the memory controller I suspect,so its basically speed vs quantity.
