    Ryzen 5 3400G and ASRock B450 Gaming ITX/ac AM4 M-ITX HDMI/DP DDR4 Retail

I'm looking at two slots of 8GB DDR4 RAM. The manual says it can use 3466MHz (OC).

Can someone please tell me whether this means I can use RAM sold by Scan that runs at that speed or 3600MHz (but limited to 3466MHz).

Or, is this a waste of money and should I go with 3200MHz?

Also, can anyone recommend which spefic make and model of RAM I should go for?

    Thanks for your help.

Whatever the manual says, it's likely the BIOS will allow 4000 or more. So I would get the 3600 memory. Make sure it works first (ask around) though - I just read that some LPX for example won't run over 2933.

I would say that for a 3400G you would benefit very slightly from 3600 over 3200. It's worth checking if any reviews have actually tested this though - there won't be a lot of difference but then these days the prices are not much different (or used to be).

    Thanks for your reply Millennium.

The crazy thing is, the 3600 is around £40 cheaper! Both are similar price but lower MHz has less clock latency.

Are you looking to tweak and overclock the RAM or just use DOCP to run XMP timings?

    How about this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/...-pvs416g360c7k

Thanks for your reply ciber, I just want something that is stable and fast for VST usage (Superior Drummer 3) with eDrums. I need fast processing and low latency.

If I need to, I will overclock but not at the expense of reliability or causing premature failure.

You've mentioned a different brand of RAM, I don't know if it will work. My understanding is that the RAM manufacturer I listed is on the QVL.

Do you not like either option I listed?

I came across four candidates from my search:

    £81.97

    £87.98

    £94.99

You are right, it does. Do you know how reliable it is and whether the motherboard will support it?

    Re: Ryzen 5 3400G and ASRock B450 Gaming ITX/ac AM4 M-ITX HDMI/DP DDR4 Retail

The ryzen 3400g is a zen+ part. The ram speed limitations will be with the cpu and not the mobo. You should be able to run 3400mhz as a minimum.

The patriot ram should be hynix cjr, no idea what the corsair memory is. If you get hold of thaiphoon burner it has a database you can look at to see the memory chips are getting and then export the details into ryzen dram calculator to see which is the better die.

You can always underclock the ram. I would make sure that your SKU is on the vendor list and not just the manufacturer. The 3100 looks really good and although I have not compared prices but it may be interesting to see how it would do with a discrete GPU.

Edit: the 3100 should run ram at 3600.

Are you referring to the AM4 3100 CPU? I'm really against any add-on graphics card for this build.

Aside from no stock at the moment, what's the problem with 3400G?

These are mobile Zen+ derived parts,so the memory controllers are not as good as Zen2. I would say 3200MHZ is a safer bet,and anything over that is a bonus.

So a lesser model number 3100 is actually superior with a discreet graphics card in how it handles RAM and has the same number of cores and threads? If so, I presume the 3600 is better too, yet I understand it's cheaper at the moment.

The 3000G series have integrated graphics and are Zen+ based. The 3000 non-G series are Zen2 based and are faster, but lack an IGP.

Ryzen 5 3400G pricing has gone a bit mad,as I assume a lot of business prebuilt PCs were built with it causing a shortage, which pushed up the pricing.

I guessed that was the case too.

I've seen the 3600 for £147.25. Do I go for it or the 3100? In either case, what discreet GPU would go with the board and support HD 1080P but be really small (half size type bracket), cheap, have a display port and not use much energy?
