Problem hitting full memory speed
Hello,
I have a Ryzen 3 3100, with a Gigabyte B450-DS3H mATX board, with HyperX FURY 16GB (1x 16GB) 3200MHz DDR4 RAM HX432C16FB3/16 memory.
I had bought 2x16GB sticks when I first bought my PC, whacked it in enabled XMP to 3200 MHz and all was good.
A few months later (when funds allowed) I bought another 2x16GB from the same retailer, however when I put that set in - I can not hit 3200 MHz.
The motherboard has XMP options, one profile to 3200 MHz and one to 3000 MHz and in both cases the motherboard just POST beeps to indicate memory fault
Originally I had sent the memory back, but the retailer returned it saying the memory is good.
In testing I have found I can either enable XMP using the old or new memory - but the moment I have both sets (even 3 dimms or a mixmatch) then the memory fault exists.
It runs fine at non XMP speeds.
I have downloaded and run memtest and ran that for 4 hours - and no memory faults were detected
Does anyone have any other suggestions
Re: Problem hitting full memory speed
I heard buying RAM separately at different dates and using it together on a system can cause issues. Technically there shouldn't be any problems if they are the same make & model, however they won't be manufactured at the same time which apparently could cause issues. Its always best practice to buy RAM kits together.
Re: Problem hitting full memory speed
This is interesting, I have an MSI B450 Carbon Pro motherboard and 32GB Patriot Viper 3600mhz ram that wont boot at 3600mhz .
It works fine if I set it to 3200mhz and even set at 3466mhz, but as soon as I try 3600 it goes blue screen at windows login, also trying to set any XMP profile causes it to attempt to POST (Twice) before resetting to it's default 2666mhz speed.
Never had any problems with RAM before this so not sure if it's just faulty ?
Re: Problem hitting full memory speed
Had the same here, the newer sticks were a different (less good) chips, different manufacturer too.
Had to turn it down a bit to get all 4 sticks to work.
Try to find out the manufacturer for the ram chips and use the Ryzen RAM calculator to find the best balance of settings.
Basically tune to the worst performing stuff in the sticks.
Re: Problem hitting full memory speed
I am in a similar boat as you.
Got another set of 16gb ram and all in 4 sticks of 8GB. All from corsair all same apart from timing. Newer set is a little tighter. 1st set of ram is hynix and 2nd is Samsung. When all 4 in with XMP my system is unstable.
I think possibly manually setting the speed and timings may help as you as you are telling each sticky to run at what speed and not relying on the mem controller.
Re: Problem hitting full memory speed
try giving more voltage to the ram if it is low
