    Extreme GTS Quad

    Hey,

Ive just received my new pc and I everything seems fine but I thought that the operating system supplied would be 64 bit because in a 32bit operating system the amount of the ram usuable is less than the 4gb in this system, so naturally for a 4gb system the 64bit operating system should be used as it is not limited.
Is the operating system for this pc meant to be 32 bit?

    Thanks

    Re: Extreme GTS Quad

I bought the same machine and queried the same thing when I questioned why half of the postal confirmation I received was chopped off. I was told that they don't ship with 64bit O/S given incompatibility issues.

It is a shame, but I suppose you're now getting a little over 3gb which is still better than two. So every cloud...

I just hope you don't get the same trouble I've had with the same machine!

    Good luck.

    Re: Extreme GTS Quad

    Hi G0oner,

We are only officially supplying the 32bit versions of Vista.

We did start by supplying Ultimate in 64bit. This did not work too well. The result was the removal of this option. I would recommend sticking with 32bit unless you need 64bit specifically for something other than to potentially claim back otherwise assigned memory.

On the oft discussed memory issue, Windows Vista 32bit *can* address the 4gb memory, your problem isn't the operating system but the way the hardware handles memory allocation.

Two posters recently clarified the situation quiet well, here and here. I also recall doing something similar but I cannot for the life of me locate my post.
