    Exclamation Processor overheating

    I have Mesh Matrix64 3400 X-BPC computer purchased 28 5 2004.
It is the family computer with 4 users. When we switch users a box appears saying:

    dwwin.exe DLL Initialisation failed
Application failed to initialize because the windows station is closing down

Then but not always a CPP.EXE ending programme box appears.

Finally if I am unlucky, I have to reset the computer as it freezes at this point. When rebooting an initial message saying processor overheating,
press F1 to continue is displayed.

    Please advise!

Hi - you could pop open the case and check that the cpu fan is still attached to the heat spreader. Also you could try doing a bit of dusting and blow any trapped dust out of the heat spreader fins using a hair dryer or something <on cold of course!>

Not using a hairdryer (unless it has a cold setting) doing it with heat is likely to screw something up.

    Hi crownhill,

DWWIN.exe is used by Windows for reporting errors which suggests to me that as you are leaving one user account an error is occuring.

We need to start with basic fault finding info though.

How long as the problem been occuring? Was there any notable alteration made to the system around the time before the problem started?

Does this only happen when swapping users? Or does it occur when shutting down too?

As long as you don't swap users, do you have no other similar problems at all?

Whilst it is possible that a CPU overheat might cause this fault it's just as possible that the irregular reset of the system could throw it up too so I'd like to rule out potential bugs first of all.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Davey
Original problem is 2 months but processor overheat only 2-3 weeks I think. I cannot remember any specific alteration but my 12 and 14 yr olds are always adding and removing programmes! They use MSN messenger a lot and have upgraded to the latest versions.
The DWWIN.EXE and othe box occur on changing user or closing down but the overheat only when closing down/rebooting.
    No other problems at all.

    Hi crownhill,

    Sorry for the delay.

I think we need to look at what processes you have running at the time you switch users.

Firstly can you download Hijackthis from here. It's under the Official Downloads section.

When run if you can click on the "Misc Tools" button, fourth one down, then click on the "open process manager" button. Finally click on the floppy disk icon near the top right of the window to save a copy of the list.

Please then either email this file to davey@meshcomputers.com , or post the contents of the text file created into a post here.

What i will hopefully do then is provide you with a process or two that you can try terminating (instrcutions on how-to I'll give at the time) before you test the system by switching users again.

    Hi Davey,

Thanks for your advise which I have actioned. Unfortunately the problem recurred:
dwwin.exe DLL Initialisation failed. Application failed to initialize because the windows station is closing down
followed by CppAp.EXE ending programme box, appearing twice.
The processor overheat notice on reboot, has not been displayed recently.
The process list was as follows:
    CTDetect.exe
    CTsvcCDA.exe
    eEBSVC.exe
    EM_EXEC.EXE
    fxssvc.exe.................reappeared
    FxSvr2.exe
    hpoevm08.exe
    hpohmr08.exe
    hpoSTS08.exe
    hpotdd01.exe
    HPZipm12.exe
    iexplore.exe................seen only as explore.exe without 'i'
    iPodService.exe
    iTouch.exe
    iTunesHelper.exe
    LogiTray.exe
    LVCOMSX.EXE
    msimn.exe..................................THIS NEVER APPEARED
    msmsgs.exe................reappeared
    MsPMSPSv.exe
    PCLETray.exe
    PMJ151LA.BIN
    qttask.exe
    WinCinemaMgr.exe
    WINWORD.EXE
I presume this means I need to reinstall windows? How important is this?
If so, I would be grateful for advice as to how to reinstall XP SP2 (have CDRom from MESH)

    Hi crownhill,

Ok, I'll need to get your email address to send you a guide or two out to make things easier. Can you send me an email to davey@meshcomputers.com and I will send them by reply.
