Hi totalwar,
Is that true?
I assumed that the Maxtor HDD fix was a 'firmware' update and as such was permanent unless some later patch was run. Oh well - I live and learn, many thanks for the info.

Yes it true if I run Norton SystemWorks 2006 one button checkup did not ignore the three reg entry's.My pc would go back to all the hard drive errors I had on my pc on bootup ie:My pc would not boot up to windows.
Could someone point me any link with a bit more detail on these issues with Maxtor HDD ands NF4 chipsets?
Google throws up a lot of stuff, but most of it seems dated back to mid 2005....or is this exactly the same issue?
It's just that I had a call last night from a very good friend with a 2 month old Mesh PC who was all in a panic because for the last week or so, he's only been able to see 1 out of his 2 Maxtor disks.
Of course being murphys luck it was the original "C" drive that dissappeared, so when he was presented with the "Insert system disk" message because the machine could find no Operating System on disk "D", he placed the mesh recovery CD in and re-installed the whole system over a lot of his data files.
Whilst he's resigned to having lost that stuff now, after a quick play about in the bios with him over the phone last night, we finally got the pc to pick up the original C drive, and then had to move it to the top of the boot options for hard disks, because now he has 2 window xp's installed.
Knowing he has the Maxtor 6V300F0, before I go and start messing with flashing firmware and what not for his computer, I would like a little more background info to make sure this is the best course of action.
Thanks.
Can anybody tell me if this is still an issue. I have just taken delivery of Mesh Extreme Vistra (AMD processor, Nvidia graphics card and Maxtor disk) which is showning similar symptoms. Does this only apply to machines with an Nvidia motherboard and Maxtor disk(s) ?
This shouldnt happen with a new system, has its been through stringent testing, ensuring the pc works at all levels, HASNT IT?
Hi, This post is very informative, however I would like some specific information. If someone can help me then please send me a private message. Best Regards,
Can we please have an update on this issue, not with respect by PM, but in this Forum where we can all have access.
I was inclined to buy my second Mesh PC, the Elite Extreme QX G80, in which I anticipate installing at least one and possibly two Maxtor HD's which I already own.
Can we please be told which PC's this problem relates to and given confirmation that the problem can arise in a situation like mine where Maxtor HD's are subsequently added.
In the absence of an appropriate response, or the inability to provide one, I will obviously have to reconsider my planned purchase.
Hi guys,
I don't think this problem affects any of the newer models (but I don't know for certain).
I had to flash my HDD's with a firmware fix within a couple of days of receiving my new MESH PC and this had until recently resolved my problems.
A couple of days ago my PC suddenly lost my second HDD ('D' drive) it simply didn't exist as far as my system was concerned. I shutdown and unplugged the PC for a while and then later I rebooted and all was well - I'm just hoping that this isn't going to become a common issue - or worse that this is some harbinger of a dying HDD/system.
