    OCUK stocking these now: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-279-AM

    No idea about steppings yet.

Edit: Someone asked OCUK to have a look. It appears that their stock is pretty much all Regor.

They are listed on Microdirect too - same manufacturer code AD5200OCK22GM as Scan:

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/pr...ource=googleps

Again no info on steppings though.

MD is listed as AM2? Shouldn't that be AM3?

Yes that confused me a bit too but I went by the manufacturer code which does look to be right:

    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AM...00OCK22GM.html

Unfortunately I'm not anywhere near Manchester as MD have 2 shops there where this is listed as being in stock - it would be good to be able to go in and see the steppings before risking buying one.

Unfortunately I *am,* and would really quite like an upgrade to my office / lan box... which is a problem since payday is still over a week away

MD put very little stock out on display in their shops, but I'm sure if you wanted to check a products details they'd pull one out of the warehouse for you to have a quick look at though. Never bothered trying myself, since I've always known exactly what I wanted before I went in!

I once asked a retailer if they could tell me what the code on a CPU was before I bought it and got a very sharp "No" in response. But, With this chip being an OEM they won't have to break the seals on the box to look so they might do.

lol - tempting as that is I'd then need to buy a new mobo and RAM to go with it, unfortunately. I'll just have to make do with my P4 HT 3.2GHz and 1GB DDR2 for now

Before I bought mine I asked Scan and Excel IT Services to check the stepping. Both said they couldn't.

OCUK have checked for one of their forum members - so kudos to them I guess.

Saw a couple of confirmed unlocks from chips bought at Scan and I just thought "strike while the iron is hot". Looks like that's turned out to be a good decison.

    Anyone speak German? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-Athlon-64-...#ht_1342wt_905

The chip in the photo looks like the right stepping for a chance. Whether the photo relates to the stock is another matter.

Well I can work out that the feedback from the one person who bought one says "super, thank you" but unfortunately they haven't said "I have unlocked this to a quad core"!

I have been checking UK sellers on EBay to see if anyone was selling one though. Not sure why yet as I don't have a motherboard to put it in if I do find one - can't decide whether to wait for the AM3+ boards to come out.

Seen a couple in a local computer shop - however none of them are unlockable.

I have however found out that my old X2 5000 may unlock to an FX5000. Just need to find a replacement motherboard for the thing.

If it's a properly old 5000+ running at ~2.6GHz stock then it won't. If it's the newer 45nm 5000+ running at 2.2GHz then you've got an outside change if you pick up a motherboard with ACC enabled...

    It's a AD50000DJ22GI which looks promising.

    Used the following link:

    http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/3243...r-oem?&page=16

It's a CACVC AC 0937 EPMW which isn't listed but i'd say has a good chance of getting there!.

But that would mean forking out on another motherboard, some more RAM, and cooler. Not sure if it's worth it! Recommendations on a motherboard would be appreciated!

Hmmmm, AM2+ motherboards appear to be as rare as hen's teeth now.

The only widely stocked board that supports unlocking is this ASRock (it's also in stock at scan, microdirect and novatech), but be aware that that's based on an older AM2 chipset so you'll only get a max 1GHz HT speed. Novatech have a newer MSI 785G based motherboard but that's a fair bit more expensive. You might actually be better of looking for a second hand board (although I've had mixed experiences with second hand motherboards), or waiting for socket AM3+ motherboards, which are rumoured to be backwards compatible with both AM3 and AM2 processors (don't know if they'll support core unlocking though)...
