Foxconn P67A-S - cheap socket 1155 Crossfire capable motherboard??

This motherboard is around £100 and appears to do symmetrical Crossfire:

    http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...942&tid=frooct

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/pr...ource=googleps

Info on the Foxconn website is a bit sparse:

    http://www.foxconnchannel.com/produc...d=en-us0000519

If this motherboard does do Crossfire it does look quite cheap for a socket 1155 Crossfire capable motherboard.

Crossfire license is dirt cheap, unlike the sli license which add more to the cost.

Looks like it lacks cap's on the power phase/VRD area, wonder what the OC will be like.

You can hack SLI onto boards though can't you ?

Overclocking headroom seems a bit less than with some other motherboards:

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/p67-mo...-32095-29.html

Looks like if you want uber overclocks and Crossfire you need to spend another £40+ it seems!

if you're confident enough to Hack the BIOS, it's more complex than just upping the base clock speed on a graphics card BIOS and I'd not trust my self to that vital a thing.

I thought that the NF200 chip was required for SLI or am I wrong here??

How many cheap SLI boards do you see, sans NF200?

@Pob: Ahhh, i thought it was done in Windows. It seems to get banded around as a solution enough to suggest its simple.

Unless I'm missing something... along with the P55 chipset, you can use SLI on P67 chipset too.

The NF200 is only for additional lanes which is unnecessary in most situations.

If you're so worried about full 16x 2.0 speeds then go LGA1366.

So the NF200 is required to get PCI-E 2.0 16X lanes and not 8X ones - thanks!

Like I said before the Foxconn website is quite vague - so does this motherboard do SLI as well??

Well for P55 you had to be careful, the 2nd full length slot on some boards was only 4x, but there are plenty that were 8x/8x in SLI/CF mode.

And yes, NF200 only provides additional lanes. and not required for SLI (there isn't any real hardware requirement for SLI or CF to work, certainly nothing that specifically needs its own chipset as shown via driver hack a la P975X)
I've not read too much into P67 boards, looks like they can use SLI aswell, but may also have limited lanes.

You'd need to research any board fairly thoroughly to be very sure on what you're getting.

Also out of personal preference I'd not touch any Foxconn board unless it was their premium range, otherwise no-no for me.

I have used the sli patch on Asus M489GTD PRO USB3 it is beyond easy and worked on 260gtx x2, install patch upon reboot select sli os, simple.

Foxconn, huge potential but never fulfilled,

Re: Foxconn P67A-S - cheap socket 1155 Crossfire capable motherboard??

Well there where quite a few hacked BIOS's for p55 motherboards floating about (as long as you could find one for your model of board and trust in someone else's "733T" skills)

@CAT the NF200 chip works by splitting and controlling the pci-e lanes from the cpu, allows "better" management, so you can get 16+16 or 16+8+8 instead od 8+8

@Max Tractor, Foxconn still do decent board esp for OEM and basic systems, we've got quite a few at work, they just stink at overclocking. (I was "tweeking" a e2160 on a foxconn G41 board at work today, couldn't get the fsb over 220mhz ie +20mhz, 1.8ghz to 1.9ghz )
Their higher end boards may be better though.
