    help with antec tp-650

i got a new tp 650 to replace my old ez cool one and I'm doing some upgrades to my rig and have come up against a problem with the PSU in regards with my new motherboard the msi big bang xpower, as the mobo requires two 8 pin, the psu comes with one and two 6+2 pins the problem is that the 6+2 pins do not fit the 8 pin socket due to the shape of the 2 pins while the 8 pin fits fine. I've been reading on the net that antec are good with helping with cable issues with their products, is it possible for me to get a modular 8 pin antec cable from some where.

    thanks for your help

    Re: help with antec tp-650

AFAIK you can run motherboards that have two 8-pin CPU power sockets with just one if your power supply only has one.

The 6+2 are PCI-E connectors and so shouldn't fit. I think it's the 4+4 that fits...

This. Do *NOT* try to force the 6+2 cables in as the electrical connections are in a different place and you will risk damaging the board. You need either 2 4pin, or one 4+4 pin, connection. The board should also work with a single 4 pin 12v connection to the motherboard.

But seriously, don't get carried away and try to force the PCIe connectors into the motherboard... not good news...

    Re: help with antec tp-650

thank you guys so much, i did in fact force it and it got stuck but just finally got it out, the PSU did not come with any 2 4pin, or one 4+4 pin and i don't wont to buy one that isn't antec so will the one 8 pin with this tp-650 really be enough to power the board?

    Re: help with antec tp-650

i checked and it does come with a 4 pin connected already but there is no sign of 4+4 pin as Molotov pointed out he found on his i also checked out some video reviews and none of them said anything about a 4+4 only 8pin,4 pin and (2)6+2 pin Linus Tech Tips on the product http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvuhTl5MHmo

    It should have 1x 4pin ATX and 1x 8pin EPS lead. (they don't use the 4+4pin ATX/EPS)
What you can do is use both, use the EPS in one 8pin socket and use the 4pin ATX in the other 8pin socket going in one side.

UNLESS you've damaged the socket by jamming that PCI-E 6+2 pin connector in it, I would not use a damaged socket.
Never force connectors, if it's not going in there's a reason, ether it's not supposed to go in there or you're putting it in wrong.

    Re: help with antec tp-650

thank you Pob, i just have one more question would the motherboard still get enough power when i use the 8 pin and the 4 pin; instead of using two 8 pins? that's what I'm really worried about.
