    New i7 spec (Need help)

    UPDATE 05 JULY

Is my PSU good enough for this build?

Hey everyone i'm looking to build a new desktop and have a budget of £1150 (Not including OS,monitor, keyboard & mouse) I was just wondering if you could help me change anything on a spec i have built so far - here it is. Any advice is appreciated

Whats the use for? if its gaming drop to a 2500k chip, the difference between a 2600 and 2500 is marginal at best. The rest looks fine tbh, just make sure the ram is 1.5v and scan more often then not have the Haf X case for £120 on the weekend today onlys, not sure on the green mind you

Apart from gaming what are the other uses of the system??

Do you really need to have a motherboard which can run two cards??

What is the resolution of the monitor you intend to use??

I assume you have a copy of Windows already??

    Edit!!

Why the pair of 1TB hard drives?? Is it for a RAID 0 array??

BTW,what budget does the OP have and what retailers do they intend to use??

The OP can get free postage from Scan after 20 posts:

    http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...-delivery.html

Also,it seems the Lian Li case is out of stock!

There seems to be two near identical but much cheaper versions:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/lian-...su-new-version

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2lian...window-w-o-psu

There is also a newer version of the case:

Scan.co.uk (getting free delivery from avforums). overclockers for the mobo and amazon for the wireless card.
Just general use some photoshop here and there sometimes video editing and I wanted 2tb of HDD so I thought raid 0 would be the way to go, but also considering raid 1 too and going for just 1tb.

What sort of budget are you looking at though??

How much video encoding do you intend to do??

Is a Crossfire capable motherboard really required??

Also, are any of the cheaper cases I suggested OK??

If you can juggle around the parts you can end up with either a cheaper build or you can get something like a bigger SSD or a much better monitor.

The thing is though it is waste of money. That £60 to £70 on the motherboard is better better spent on a higher graphics card, better monitor or even a bigger SSD.

The same goes with the Core i7. Unless you are doing loads of video encoding the Core i5 is simply better value.

Both the following motherboards use the Z68 chipset:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...3gb-s-raid-atx

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...6gb-s-raid-atx

However, both do not do 8X/8X Crossfire.

This motherboard uses the P67 chipset and can do Crossfire:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-p...-sata-raid-atx

This monitor can be had for around £200 if you shop around:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-de...0mm-thin-bezel

It uses an IPS panels and many users on Hexus think it is a fantastic monitor. There maybe one or two cheaper which will do the job but I will need to have a look around.

The U2311H is another league when compared to the Asus VH242H.

    Look at this review:

This monitor is similar to the U2311H but lacks RTC:

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/23-l...-height/964854

Supposedly it is not as good as the Dell for gaming however some people think otherwise:

    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=209724

    Edit!!

The U2311H is around £200 including delivery from pcbuyit:

    http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product_inf...oducts_id=1520

    http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product_inf...oducts_id=1520

Aria are selling it for £199.99 including delivery:

You won't go wrong with the Dell monitor cat has recommended, just make sure if you order from aria you ask them for a A03 version which is current, that way if you wish to use more then one later down the line you can match up.
